Lucid has named Cloppenburg Automobil SE as a new retail partner in Germany, with a dedicated sales and service location due to open in Duisburg in January 2027.

The dealer group will also provide authorized maintenance and repair for Lucid vehicles at its location in Bavaria, the Saudi-backed EV maker said in a statement on Tuesday.

Cloppenburg will serve as Lucid’s “primary retail partner for the Düsseldorf region,” according to the announcement. Lucid runs one of its four company-owned German studios in Düsseldorf, and the statement did not say whether that arrangement would change.

The upcoming Duisburg site will offer sales, service and customer deliveries “under one roof,” Lucid said. Customers will be able to see the Gravity SUV and the Air sedan there while the third model, the midsize SUV named Lucid Cosmos, is planned to follow.

The company did not give an exact opening date in January or the commercial terms of the agreement.

“Expanding local access to sales and service reflects Lucid’s commitment to delivering the seamless ownership experience that our customers expect,” said Lawrence Hamilton, President of Europe at Lucid, while noting “more convenient access to Lucid vehicles and authorized maintenance and repair.”

Who Cloppenburg Is

Cloppenburg Automobil SE is registered in Düsseldorf. Its website lists dealerships in Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate and Bavaria, most of them selling BMW and Mini vehicles.

The group’s Duisburg dealership, lists BMW, Mini, XPeng and Omoda & Jaecoo among its brands. Lucid described the new Duisburg location as dedicated to its vehicles but did not say whether it will share that site.

In Erlangen, Cloppenburg’s dealership in the Tennenlohe district is run by its subsidiary Autohaus Wormser and lists BMW and Mini.

Cloppenburg became an official XPeng sales partner in Germany in January, offering the G6 and G9 at newly opened sites in Ansbach and Duisburg, Einzelhandel-News reported in March.

The group employs more than 400 people, the trade publication said at the time.

Lucid’s Hybrid Retail Push

Cloppenburg is Lucid’s second publicly named retail partner in Germany, after Wackenhut, which Lucid announced as its first in Europe on March 16. EV first reported the Wackenhut deal on February 24.

Wackenhut began selling and servicing Lucid vehicles in Baden-Baden on March 30, and Lucid said at the time that Stuttgart would follow in the summer.

Under the hybrid model, “Lucid retains responsibility for brand positioning and pricing structure,” while “partners manage regional sales and service operations,” the company said in March.

Before the partnerships, Lucid sold in Germany only through its own studios in Munich, Frankfurt, Düsseldorf and Hamburg, supported by service centers and mobile service hubs.

Outside Germany, Lucid named Ferrari dealer Munsterhuis Autobedrijven as its first Dutch retail partner on August 20, with a sales and service site in Hengelo.

It announced its entry into France on September 3 with the import division of Emil Frey, and plans to open French orders and its first three locations in the first quarter of 2027.

Hamilton’s Network Target

Hamilton first outlined the dealer plan in September 2025. “As a first step, we want to be present in 12 to 15 cities,” he told Automobilwoche at the time.

Lucid planned about 15 dealer partners and an eventual network of 50 to 60 locations in Germany, with dealers adding the brand to existing showrooms rather than building new ones, electrive reported.

With Wackenhut and Cloppenburg, Lucid has named two of those retail partners in Germany, plus Possögel for service only.

German Registrations

Lucid registered 26 vehicles in Germany in September, up from five a year earlier, according to the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA).

It registered 166 vehicles in the first nine months, up 17.7% from 141 a year earlier and 17 short of its full-year 2025 total of 183. The figures include test-drive, showroom and press vehicles.

KBA does not break Lucid’s registrations down by model. Data compiled by ‘EU-EVs’ show the Gravity accounted for 87 of Lucid’s 140 German registrations in the first eight months and the Air for 53, reversing the 2025 split of 123 Air sedans and 13 Gravity SUVs.

Germany is Lucid’s largest European market, and the company’s European registrations rose in September to their second-best month of 2026.

Wider European Plans

Lucid also launched certified used Air sales in Europe at the end of September, with the Gravity to follow.

In September, it added Bolt as a robotaxi partner, with 25,000 vehicles targeted, and the first robotaxis are set to start in Madrid in 2027.

Globally, Lucid produced 2,954 vehicles and delivered 3,806 in the third quarter, it said in October. The company will report third-quarter financial results on November 9.
