Onvo to Unveil Revamped L60 on May 29 with Bigger Standard Battery and LiDAR

Onvo will unveil and open pre-sales for its refreshed 2026 L60 SUV on May 29, with the model set to reach the Chinese market in June.

The pre-sale launch will take place on the opening day of the Shenzhen Auto Show, which runs through June 7.

Onvo‘s entry model is the first one under Nio Inc.‘s family-oriented sub-brand, originally launched in September 2024 to rival Tesla‘s Model Y.

The 2026 facelift centers on intelligent driving and cockpit upgrades, bringing the entry model into line with the hardware already deployed on the refreshed L90 and the recently launched L80.

A Reversal on LiDAR

The headline change is the addition of a LiDAR-equipped variant, a shift from the vision-only strategy the sub-brand had promoted since its 2024 debut.

The L60 was the first model in the Nio group to launch without LiDAR, a notable departure given that the main Nio brand has treated roof-mounted LiDAR as standard safety equipment since inception.

The refreshed L60 follows the same two-trim structure now used across the L90 and L80.

One variant pairs a LiDAR sensor with Nio‘s in-house Shenji NX9031 autonomous-driving chip. The other uses the Shenji chip in a pure-vision configuration without LiDAR.

Onvo‘s Coconut operating system, which powers the brand’s models, will also be offered in two versions: Coconut+ with the Shenji chip and LiDAR, and Coconut on an Nvidia Orin X setup.

The 2026 L90, launched April 21, was the first Onvo vehicle to adopt the Shenji NX9031 chip and LiDAR sensors.

The L80, which began pre-sales on April 28 and launched May 15, carried the strategy into the five-seat segment.

Pricing to be Revealed

CEO William Li has signaled that holding prices steady is part of the strategy.

Onvo has not yet disclosed pre-sale pricing for the 2026 L60, and no official LiDAR-trim price has been confirmed.

Onvo‘s head of product Eric Yu has said the LiDAR variant carries roughly 15,000 yuan in additional component cost over the pure-vision trim, driven by sensor hardware and rising high-performance memory prices — though that figure reflects component cost rather than a retail premium.

The brand’s recent refresh cycle offers a guide on the entry price: when Onvo launched the revamped L90 with a LiDAR option, it held the starting price unchanged at 265,800 yuan ($39,090) with the battery pack included.

If Onvo applies the same approach to the L60, the entry price would hold near the current 206,900 yuan ($29,900) with the battery, or 149,900 yuan ($21,700) under Nio‘s Battery-as-a-Service scheme.

Speaking ahead of the launch, founder William Li told prospective buyers that those wanting to purchase immediately could take advantage of current incentives, while those willing to wait could opt for the refreshed model.

Bigger Battery, Richer Cabin

The 2026 L60 will reportedly make the 85 kWh battery standard, moving away from the 60.6 kWh pack that anchored the original lineup.

The current L60 offers both a 60 kWh and an 85 kWh option, with the larger pack delivering a CLTC range of up to 730 km in rear-wheel-drive form.

Standardizing the 85 kWh battery would align the L60 with the L80 and L90, both of which use an 85 kWh ternary lithium pack across all trims.

Inside, the refresh adds a rear entertainment screen, a dual-section electric roof sunshade for the rear, and a mini refrigerator.

The original L60 made a feature of its 52-liter Midea fridge with two temperature modes, a talking point that helped differentiate the model at launch.

The new cabin additions push the L60 further toward the family-travel positioning that defines the Onvo brand.

Demand Push

The L60 facelift is the latest step in an intensive product-refresh cycle aimed at reviving Onvo‘s sales.

The brand delivered 107,808 vehicles in 2025, its first full year of deliveries, but momentum has cooled in 2026.

Onvo delivered 18,691 vehicles in the first four months of the year, down 2.55% year-on-year, even as April deliveries of 5,352 units rose 21.64% from a year earlier.

Li has pointed to Onvo as the sub-brand he expects to eventually take the majority of the group’s sales, targeting a 55% share of total volume under a long-term 35-55-10 brand mix across Nio, Onvo, and Firefly.

Over the January-to-April period, Onvo contributed about 16.6% of group volume, well short of the 55% destination Li described.

Nio has leaned on government and fleet channels to supplement retail demand, with the L60 joining the Shanghai government fleet and the Qingdao police as part of a broader institutional push.

The updated L60 arrives alongside a packed launch calendar for Nio Inc., which has rolled out the L90, L80, and the flagship Nio-brand ES9 in quick succession.

The company’s CEO has identified the L80 and ES9 as central to driving near-term delivery growth.
