Onvo Launches Revamped L90 with LiDAR Option, Starting Price Unchanged

Onvo has officially launched on Tuesday the second generation of its third-row SUV L90, the first under Nio‘s family-oriented sub-brand to feature a version with LiDAR sensors.

The model is available in three trims, including Pro, Max+ and Ultra+.

The Pro version retains the same pricing as the first iteration of the model, which debuted in July.

It has a starting price of 179,800 yuan when purchased with Nio’s Battery as a Service (BaaS) subscription model, allowing users to lease the battery separately at 899 yuan per month.

Purchased with the battery included, it was priced from 265,800 yuan.

The Max+ and Ultra+, which feature LiDAR, are priced from 279,800 yuan and 299,800 yuan, respectively.

The prices lower to 193,800 yuan and 213,800 yuan if the vehicle is purchased with BaaS.

Onvo‘s head of product Eric Yu had warned earlier this month that the updated L90’s production cost has risen by approximately 10,000 yuan due to rising prices of components — such as high-performance memory.

The first batch of display and test-drive vehicles started being shipped to showrooms across China on Monday.

The new L90 features an 85 kWh battery across all trims, with a CLTC range of 600 km (372 miles) for the first two trims and 570 km for the Ultra+ version.

While the Pro and Max iterations are Rear Wheel Drive, the Ultra is a dual-motor All Wheel Drive.

Besides the LiDAR addition, the Pro and Max trims feature air suspension, zero-gravity seats and a rear entertainmnent screen.

Specs

The Max+ and Ultra+ add a zero-gravity seat for the second-row right passenger, a 17.3-inch 3K rear entertainment screen, the ShenJi NX9031 autonomous driving chip, and high-precision LiDAR.

The updated SUV is the first Onvo model to feature LiDAR-equipped variants, ending the pure-vision approach the sub-brand had promoted since its 2024 launch.

The 2026 Onvo L90 six-seater features an 85 kWh battery across all three trims.

The Pro and Max+ variants offer a CLTC range of 600 km (372 miles) with rear-wheel drive, while the Ultra+ switches to a dual-motor all-wheel drive setup with a CLTC range of 570 km (354 miles).

Assisted Driving

Under the hood, the 2026 L90 replaces the Nvidia Orin-X chip with Nio’s in-house Shenji NX9031 — a 5-nanometer autonomous driving processor already deployed across the main Nio brand.

The model also introduces the latest version of the Nio World Model (NWM), which the company describes as China’s first embodied driving model for autonomous driving.

A blue indicator light has been added to the side mirror housing, integrated alongside the turn signal.

The light activates when the vehicle’s intelligent driving system is engaged.

Onvo described it as an “identity marker” for autonomous driving and a road safety signal — “making AI visible, reducing misunderstandings, and improving safety.”

The feature has already been rolled out across the wider Nio Group.

It was included in the 2026 facelifts of the ET5, ET5T, ES6, and EC6 earlier this month and in Firefly’s refreshed hatchback on April 7.

The 2026 L90 is the first Onvo model to adopt it.

Dual-Tone Exterior

The updated model introduces two new dual-tone body colors — silver-purple and purple-gold.

Dual-tone paint schemes were first introduced within the Nio Group on the flagship ET9 Horizon Edition last year.

The 2026 L90 is the first Onvo model to adopt the approach.

The silver-purple scheme pairs “Chenhui Silver” — a new-generation shade developed with BASF — on the lower body with “Ningye Purple” above the beltline.

The purple was inspired by the night sky above the Great Wall — “deep yet not oppressive, with a quiet sense of refinement.”

The purple-gold combination — “Ningye Purple” over “Yunxi Gold” — draws on traditional Eastern symbolism.

Upcoming L80

Onvo is also expected to debut the L80 this week.

The L80 will be a five-seat variant of the L90, sharing most of its components with the six-seat SUV.

According to brand chief Fei Shen, the model will also feature a LiDAR-equipped version, similar to the L90.

A LiDAR version for the debut L60 could also be in the plans, after an initial denial — as Tthe model was recently featured in a catalogue from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

Deliveries are expected to begin in mid-May, timed to coincide with Onvo‘s second anniversary on May 15 (World Family Day).

Co-founder and President Lihong Qin said last month that the L80’s pricing will slot between the L60 and L90.

The model is launching just days before the Beijing Auto Show, which takes place from April 24 to May 3.

New model launches scheduled around the event highlight the importance of the large SUV segment in China, with competition being especially fierce in the three-row category.

Besides the L80, Nio is set to showcase the ES9, its new flagship SUV — and China’s largest sport-utility vehicle — for which it opened pre-orders on April 9.

Q1 Deliveries

Nio recently opened its first multi-brand store, as it aims to lower fixed costs and to increase demand for both its sub-brands.

Additionally, the company has expanded its subscription-based vehicle offer across all three of its brands through a broadened partnership with Alipay — introducing both Onvo vehicles on the platform.

The new launches are expected to increase demand for Onvo‘s lineup, as the brand recorded its two worst monthly delivery figures since launch in January and February.

The low results came after the resumption of China’s purchase tax for new energy vehicles in January and amid the Chinese New Year holiday in February, which usually leads to a slowdown in both production and sales.

Deliveries rebounded in March, more than doubling to 6,877 units — a 131% sequential increase and a 42.7% rise year over year.

The L90 contributed 3,360 of those units, a 155% jump from February.

The L60 accounted for 3,517 — slightly ahead of the larger SUV but still down 27% compared to March 2025.

First-quarter L90 deliveries totaled 6,179 units — well below the pace set during its first three months on sale, when the model averaged over 10,000 monthly units.

The L90 reached 50,000 cumulative deliveries on April 3 — eight months after sales began in August 2025.
