XPeng Readies Major Software Update for International Markets

XPeng appears set to roll out its XOS 5.9.5 software update to international markets this month — following weeks of growing speculation among owners and beta testers that a wider release was nearing.

The anticipation has been building since May, when reports of beta testing and leaked changelogs began circulating across owner forums and social media groups in Europe and other overseas markets.

More recently, promotional content published by XPeng Hong Kong teasing a new software update has added to expectations that the update could be released before the end of June.

On Wednesday, the Guangzhou-based automaker’s Hong Kong division showcased a new parking-assistance function in a social media post — which matched details from a beta-testing feature list shared by owners last month.

Community members on Reddit and European owner forums described the release as the company’s sixth major OTA update, pointing to it as a signal that features currently in beta testing are nearing production deployment.

International XPeng owners have historically monitored Hong Kong announcements for clues about upcoming releases, as vehicles in the region are managed through distributor operations — and have previously received software updates ahead of wider international deployment.

The carmaker had previously rolled out software updates simultaneously across the globe until the 5.8.0 version.

From Beta to Production

XPeng launched beta testing for XOS 5.9.5 in early May through its Pioneer Program and regional testing groups.

Screenshots and feature details surfaced on German XPeng owners forum xpeng-fahrer.de between May 3 and May 5, with discussions quickly spreading to French, Italian and other European EV communities.

By mid-May, Reddit users on r/Xpeng confirmed active participation in the beta program. Several owners reported testing version 5.9.5.8902 between May 18 and May 21, noting that some beta participants were operating under non-disclosure agreements.

Facebook owner groups and regional forums also shared screenshots and feature lists during the same period.

As of early June, XOS 5.9.5 remained a beta release with no confirmed broad public deployment across Europe or other international markets.

For many owners outside China, the latest widely available stable software sits within the 5.8.x series.

The automaker rolled out XOS 5.8.0 globally in August 2025 — the company’s third major OTA update of that year, following XOS 5.4 in January and XOS 5.6 in May.

What XOS 5.9.5 Includes

Changelog screenshots show the update — identified internally as version 5.9.5.6901 — carrying a broad set of new features and improvements across the intelligent cockpit, driving assistance, comfort and safety systems.

On the smartphone integration front, XPeng introduces a CarPlay and Android Auto split-screen mode.

After connecting either platform, users can swipe in from the screen edge to run CarPlay or Android Auto on one side while operating a built-in app such as the navigation system or music player on the other.

A related addition, ‘XDOCK Always On,’ keeps the dock bar visible while CarPlay or Android Auto is active — ensuring climate controls, volume and other shortcuts remain accessible.

The update adds ‘XCOMBO Location Triggers,’ which allow location and navigation conditions to serve as automation triggers within XPeng‘s XCOMBO system.

Supported triggers include approaching a destination — by time or distance — and arriving at or departing from a saved place, with a minimum detection range of 200 metres.

In the Auto Parking Assist system, a new Custom Parking function lets drivers manually designate a nearby parking space, providing more flexibility in spaces that lack clear markings — the feature previewed in XPeng Hong Kong’s Wednesday promotional content.

Parking Orientation Display now shows the actual parking direction — forward-in or reverse-in — in real time through the vehicle model within the parking-space frame.

A new Exit Direction Selection feature enables drivers to choose their preferred exit direction, left or right, based on road conditions when leaving a parking space.

On the safety side, XPeng has removed a restriction that prevented shifting out of Park when the driver’s seat backrest was reclined, and eliminated the associated warning prompt.

A new thermal-runaway safety feature actively indicates the location of the emergency door unlock switch to help occupants respond quickly.

Navigation improvements include the ability to filter charging stations by power output and brand, along with smart charging route planning to reduce range anxiety on longer trips — though the changelog specifies this last addition applies to Hong Kong and Macao.

Voice Control

Voice control sees several additions. Voice Destination Search is now more accurate in English, German, French, Cantonese and Thai, and users can ask for their estimated time of arrival during navigation.

A Continuous Conversation mode eliminates the need to repeat the wake phrase before every command — after an initial instruction, the driver can keep talking, with the conversation ending automatically after 20 seconds of silence or when the user says “bye.”

Voice now controls additional vehicle settings including air vents, Sentry Mode, wireless charging, child lock and Mindfulness Space.

China Runs Ahead on AIOS 6.x

International XPeng owners operate on a separate software track from their Chinese counterparts.

XPeng began rolling out its Tianji AIOS 6.0 in China in early February, with the initial deployment targeting newer models including the G7, P7+, G6, G9 and X9.

The update introduced a redesigned AI-powered cockpit featuring proactive services, a new desktop interface, enhanced voice interaction and broader AI integration.

The company began rolling out AIOS 6.2.0 to eligible vehicles in China over the weekend.

XPeng indicated that international markets will receive an adapted version of AIOS 6 at a later stage, but has not committed to a timeline.

XOS 5.9.5 is widely viewed within the owner community as a preparatory release designed to bridge existing international software toward a future global AIOS/XOS 6 platform.

The update extends a pattern of regular OTA cadence that has defined XPeng‘s international software strategy since August 2024, when the company launched its first synchronised global OTA with XOS 5.2 — introducing Apple CarPlay to drivers across Europe, the Middle East and Southeast Asia.

Growing European Footprint

The software push accompanies rapid expansion of XPeng‘s physical presence in Europe.

The company registered more than 3,400 EVs across the continent in April, with the G6, G9 and P7+ now assembled locally at Magna Steyr’s plant in Graz, Austria.

The arrangement allows the brand to avoid the European Commission’s additional duties on Chinese-built electric vehicles.

Founder and CEO He Xiaopeng said earlier this month that a fourth model will soon enter production at the Austrian plant.

XPeng plans to launch four new models across Europe in 2026, including the Mona L03 and its flagship GX SUV, as the company targets global deliveries of between 550,000 and 600,000 vehicles this year.

In April, XPeng signed distribution agreements with partners in Bulgaria, Malta and Romania — further expanding its European footprint as the company pushes to double overseas sales in 2026.

The three new agreements would bring the total to at least 63 markets if each represents an incremental addition, though the exact count has not been officially confirmed.

In Europe, the total jumps to at least 28 countries.

XPeng has not issued an official statement confirming the official rollout date for XOS 5.9.5 in international markets.
