XPeng to Launch Hybrid Version of G7 SUV, China’s MIIT Filing Reveals

XPeng is set to launch an extended-range version of its recent G7 SUV, according to the latest catalogue released on Friday by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).

It becomes the brand’s second model to offer a hybrid version, following the range-extended version of the X9 multi-purpose van (MPV) revealed last month.

Prior to these, the Guangzhou-based company only produced fully electric models since its inception 11 years ago.

Positioned as a mid-size SUV, the upcoming G7 will feature a 1.5L range-extender system and will be powered by an electric motor with a maximum output of 218 kW.

Its electric driving range reaches up to 325 km (202 miles).

The vehicle is 26 mm longer than the fully electric version. It measures 4,918 mm in length, 1,925 mm in width and 1,655 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2890 mm.

The fully electric G7 SUV was launched in early July in China and is priced between 195,800 and 225,800 yuan ($27,300–$31,500).

The model has a range of up to 702 km under the CLTC standard.

In the past two months, 12,344 G7s were delivered in China.

In July, the model contributed 15.1% to the brand’s total results.

Its share of XPeng‘s August deliveries rose to 18.1%, as it became the second best-selling model after the Mona M03 sedan.

Early last month, the XPeng X9 range-extended MPV was unveiled by the MIIT, which officially described it as a “plug-in range-extended hybrid multi-purpose passenger vehicle.”

XPeng later confirmed the model’s development, stating that the “XPeng X9 Super Electric is here!”

The Guangzhou-based company unveiled the refreshed version of its X9 MPV in April, saying that it invested 50 million yuan ($6.81 million) in noise, vibration, and harshness improvements, making its cabin achieve “million-level” quietness.

Compared to the first generation X9, 2025 X9 starting prices increased $5,450 (40,000 yuan) to 399,800 yuan (about $54,500 at the time).

In Europe, the company is introducing the refreshed iterations of the G6 and G9 SUVs in the markets, and preparing for the launch of the new P7 in the Old Continent.

The updated P7 was launched in China late last month, with deliveries beginning shortly after. The vehicle secured more than 10,000 firm orders in the first seven minutes.

Earlier this week, XPeng announced that it is bringing its Mona series to European markets, a year after the Mona M03 launch in China. The company also opened its first R&D center in Europe, located in Munich.
