China’s tech giant Xiaomi said on Tuesday it delivered more than 25,000 electric vehicles in its home market in June — down from the “over 28,000” recorded in May.
“We are working around the clock to ramp up production and aim to deliver vehicles to you as soon as possible,” the company wrote in a Weibo post.
Weekly insurance registration figures released also this Tuesday showed that the company founded and led by Lei Jun sold 9,100 units between June 23 and 29 — nearly doubling from the 4,600 units recorded in the third week of June.
Considering it delivered “over 28,000” units both in April and May, the EV unit of the smartphone manufacturer delivered more than 81,000 vehicles in the second quarter of the year.
Exact figures will only be disclosed when the company reports its second quarter financial results.
The figures are about 7% higher than the first quarter, when the brand said it delivered 75,869 SU7 vehicles.
The company officially launched its second model, the YU7, last week, a year after debuting its EV unit with the SU7 sedan.
The SUV broke all previous records for a car launch in China by securing 200,000 pre-orders in just three minutes. In just 18 hours, the YU7 had 240,000 locked-in orders.
The standard version of Xiaomi’s new model starts 10,000 yuan lower than Tesla‘s refreshed Model Y, which it is set to compete with — at 253,500 yuan ($35,320).
Xiaomi also launched the SU7 Ultra Nürburgring Limited Edition, which is priced from 814,900 yuan ($113,600) and has only 100 units available.
Both the mass-production version of the SU7 Ultra and the Limited Edition broke records in the Nürburgring track earlier this year.
The SU7 Ultra was released nearly a year after the launch of the debut SU7 sedan.
The SU7 is currently priced from 299,900 yuan ($41,800), while the Ultra starts at 529,900 yuan ($73,800).
Xiaomi‘s chief praised the EV maker Nio over the weekend for its battery swapping technology and service quality, citing them as “significant contributions” to China’s premium electric vehicle segment.
