Xiaomi will officially debut its first two extended-range electric SUVs at a dedicated event on Thursday, marking its entry into one of the most competitive segments in China.
The Sky Nomad N90 Max and N70 Max will be unveiled at 7 pm Beijing Time, the company confirmed in a Weibo post on Monday.
Xiaomi described the N90 Max as a full-size, seven-seat flagship extended-range SUV and the N70 Max as a mid-size, five-seat all-wheel-drive extended-range SUV — both branded as intelligent SUVs with transformable, spacious interiors.
The event will primarily introduce the Xiaomi Kunlun Technology Architecture, comprising the Kunlun Platform, the Kunlun Super Extended-Range System and the Kunlun All-Domain Safety framework, according to the post.
The launch marks the first time Xiaomi has expanded beyond fully electric vehicles (BEVs) since entering the auto industry with the SU7 sedan in March 2024.
Every vehicle the company sells — across the SU7 and YU7 lineups — is fully electric.
Sky Nomad, known in Chinese as ‘Pengcheng’, breaks that pattern with gasoline-electric range extenders (EREV) that pair a battery with a fuel-burning generator.
Kunlun Architecture
Xiaomi began developing the Kunlun architecture entirely from scratch in early 2023.
The platform features a completely flat floor, long seat rails and rotating first-row seats — structural choices designed around the transformable cabin concept that Xiaomi previewed earlier this month.
Front seats rotate 180 degrees to face the second row, enabling a face-to-face layout with a floor-standing table slotted between the rows.
A sliding center armrest extends rearward and accepts a tabletop accessory to form what the company described as a bar counter.
Co-founder and chief executive Lei Jun has framed the series as a fundamentally different product from Xiaomi‘s existing lineup.
He has said the SU7 and YU7 are cars built for drivers, while Sky Nomad aims to create a living space — reconfigurable into settings such as a studio, café, lounge or playground when parked.
N90 Max
Xiaomi disclosed key specifications through a regulatory filing with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology earlier this month.
The N90 Max measures 5,285 mm long on a 3,080 mm wheelbase and uses a dual-motor setup rated at 210 kW and 100 kW, paired with a ternary lithium battery from CALB.
A camping variant with a pop-up roof, a roof bed board, a side cabinet and a side-tent connector also appeared in the filing.
The pop-up roof can be raised only while parked and off public roads.
N70 Max
The N70 Max sits on a shorter body — 4,960 mm long with a 2,950 mm wheelbase — and seats five.
All N70 versions share the same shell but differ in powertrain: the N70 Max carries a CALB pack and the same dual-motor layout as the N90 Max, while the base N70 uses a Sunwoda lithium iron phosphate battery and a single 210 kW motor.
All Sky Nomad models share a 1,499 cc M15DRE engine produced by Harbin Dongan Automotive Engine, generating maximum net power of 112 kW.
Common Specs and Testing
Maximum battery capacity across the series reaches 76 kWh, delivering up to 505 km of all-electric range under China’s CLTC cycle and up to 380 km under the WLTC. Lowest fuel consumption with a depleted battery stands at 5.7 liters per 100 km.
According to Xiaomi, the two models have been subjected to an unusually broad testing program.
As of June 30, the Sky Nomad series had accumulated 626 days of road testing across two winters and two summers.
The company deployed 566 test vehicles covering 4.28 million km of real-world driving, a scale Xiaomi said was designed to reduce reliability risks in an unfamiliar powertrain format.
Competitive Landscape
Sky Nomad enters a segment dominated by established extended-range brands.
Li Auto and Huawei-backed Aito together accounted for seven of the 10 best-selling range-extended SUVs in China in 2025, giving them deep brand recognition in the mid-to-large and large family SUV market that Xiaomi now targets.
Starting prices for the N90 are expected to reach as low as 200,000 yuan ($29,400), according to Chinese outlet 21jingji, placing Sky Nomad in direct competition with both incumbents.
Delivery Pressure
The new series is central to Xiaomi‘s 2026 expansion plans.
The company set a full-year delivery target of 550,000 vehicles, up roughly 34% from approximately 410,000 in 2025.
First-half deliveries reached 185,055 units, representing about 34% of that annual goal.
Reaching the target requires average monthly volume of approximately 60,000 across the second half — well above the brand’s all-time monthly peak of 50,212 set last December.
Xiaomi has not announced pricing or an on-sale date for the Sky Nomad lineup.
