Tesla, the world’s leading electric vehicle manufacturer, may be shifting its business model as it deprioritizes the “highly anticipated” Model 2. In his latest research note, Morgan Stanley analyst Adam Jonas highlighted Elon Musk’s announcement that Tesla will unveil its robotaxi on August 8.
While the firm recognizes that Tesla “has many attributes that can make it a formidable player (if not an outright winner) in the race to autonomy,” it predicts that substantial commercial scaling won’t occur until “well beyond 2030”, cautioning that the path to large-scale commercialization of “true robotaxis” without steering wheels will be lengthy and volatile.

Adam Jonas reaffirmed Morgan Stanley’s overweight rating and $310 price target on Tesla shares implying an upside potential of 79.21 percent based on Monday’s closing price of $172.98.
Tesla delivered 11,792 vehicles in the United Kingdom during the first quarter of the year, an increase from the 9,862 units delivered in the previous quarter. In the first quarter of 2022, United Kingdom saw just over 15,500 units, declining by 14.26 percent to 13,358 units in the same period last year. Among the 11,792 units delivered this year, 8,154 were Model Y, the world’s top-selling car globally, and 3,566 were Model 3.
In the first quarter, Model Y continued to be the top-selling electric vehicle in the country, followed by MG’s MG4 with 3,983 units and Tesla’s Model 3 with 3,566 units. Rounding out the top 5 were Audi’s Q4-eTron and BMW i4, with 3,518 and 3,018 units sold respectively.
Last week, Tesla‘s Vice President for Public Policy and Business Development Rohan Patel engaged in an open discussion with Tesla enthusiasts on X regarding Tesla’s supervised Full Self Driving (FSD).
In an exchange about the technology, Patel enhanced that the recently updated regulations of Driver Control Assistance Systems in Europe are “encouraging”. However, he defended that they still “don’t address the key issue (system initiated maneuvers)” which would enable the “safety benefits of Tesla‘s FSD Supervised”.
