Onvo Sales Rise for First Time in a Month While Gen1 L60 Continues to Slide

Insurance registration data shared on Tuesday showed that Nio Group‘s family oriented sub-brand Onvo sold 2,780 vehicles last week.

The figures rose 6.1% in the week from September 15 to 21, when compared to the second week of the month.

Sales increased for the first time since late August, when the brand reached an all time record with 4,100 vehicles, before declining to 3,700 units in the last week of the month.

Despite lower registrations during September, Onvo started outperforming sales of the Group’s main brand, Nio, eight weeks ago.

Nio sales represented 2,580 vehicles, while the most recent Firefly brand accounted for 1,310 units sold in the third week of September — in a total 6,670 units sold by the Group.

Onvo began deliveries of its second model, the three-row SUV L90, on the first day of August across over 40 cities in China.

Between September 15 and 21, Onvo sales were divided between its L60 and L90 SUVs, which represented 370 and 2,410 units, respectively.

When it comes to large-size SUVs, the L90 was the third preferred choice among consumers, after Aito’s M8 and M9 models. Li Auto sold 1,139 Li i8s, while Tesla registered 850 Model Y Ls last week.

Last week, the brand launched a refreshed version of its debut L60.

Onvo management described the update as a minor facelift, with the vehicle being designed to stimulate demand of its debut model.

The brand saw the weekly sales fall for the fourth consecutive week as some customers might prefer to wait for the second iteration of the model.

Pre-orders for the new version of the five seat SUV started on September 19, with the prices remaining unchanged from the previous iteration.

Deliveries are set to start from “mid-to-late October”, according to the brand on Monday.

Onvo also said it is introducing the ‘Waiting Points’ system for L60 orders, according to which “if a customer cannot pick up the car within 4 weeks due to reasons related to the Onvo brand, the company will provide ‘L60 Waiting Points’ at 500 points/day.”

The same system has been applied to L90 deliveries last month, as the company struggled with production ramp up of the large SUV.

Nio also applied the same rules to customers awaiting deliveries of the ES8 SUV, which was launched on Saturday at the annual ‘Nio Day’ event.

Onvo‘s Head of Product Yu Bin told local media late last month that the company intends to first “serve L90 users well” before setting a new timeline for the L80 — the five-seat version of the L90, which had its launch delayed until early 2026.
