Lucid Motors‘s next over-the-air software update for the Gravity SUV is scheduled for mid-to-late May, according to remarks reportedly made by Senior VP of Revenue Erwin Raphael on Sunday.
The timeline was disclosed at an owners’ event in Nashville on Sunday and shared on the Lucid Owners forum.
According to the Lucid Gravity owner attending the event, Raphael said that the upcoming release is expected to introduce hands-free Dream Drive, a Phone-as-Key digital key feature, deeper Google integration for in-car navigation search, expanded Halo-branded security functionality, key fob improvements, and adaptive headlight functionality.
The forum poster, who identified himself as a Gravity Grand Touring owner, said the remarks were given during a question-and-answer session at the Nashville owners gathering and added a caveat that “schedules and plans change.”
While Raphael did not detail the Google integration, EV has learned that Lucid has been testing Google Maps as a replacement for its current navigation provider, HERE.
Lucid had not formally announced the timing or feature list of the next Gravity update through corporate channels as of early Monday.
Raphael was promoted to Senior VP, Global Revenue in November 2025, after having joined the Saudi-backed EV maker in 2024 as VP of Revenue.
Hands-Free Driving
Hands-free Dream Drive is the most-anticipated capability in the reported feature list, marking the Gravity’s transition from Level 2 to Level 2-plus driver assistance.
Interim Chief Executive Marc Winterhoff — who will soon return to the Chief Operations Officer role — said at Bank of America’s 2026 Global Automotive Summit on March 17 that hands-free highway driving for the Gravity was “a few weeks” from deployment.
The mid-to-late May timeline disclosed at the Nashville event extends Winterhoff’s “few weeks” framing by roughly nine to ten weeks.Â
Lucid Motors‘s 2027 model-year configurator originally listed a Q3 2026 timeline for the feature, which the company subsequently told EV was a mistake and adjusted to Q2 2026.
The Gravity is positioned to be the first Lucid Motors vehicle to receive point-to-point autonomous capabilities, branded “Lucid Intelligence AI Experience,” ahead of the Air sedan and the upcoming Cosmos midsize platform.
Phone-as-Key and Google Search
The Phone-as-Key digital key feature was previewed in the Gravity’s UX 3.5 release notes in March, when Senior VP of Engineering and Software Emad Dlala revealed that Lucid Motors was developing the capability for deployment later in 2026.
The reported deeper Google integration for in-car navigation search appears designed to address persistent owner complaints about Lucid Motors‘s current HERE-based navigation system.
Adaptive headlights — long flagged in the company’s published 2026 software roadmap — would round out the lighting functionality of the Gravity, joining hands-free driving and a digital key as the three flagship roadmap items still to deploy.
Previous Updates
Lucid Motors deployed UX 3.4.1 in the final days of January, the first major update aimed at resolving software issues that had drawn extensive customer complaints since Gravity deliveries began.
The release introduced a see-through vehicle display, enhanced audio controls, and improved key fob recognition — among the most persistent complaints from owners.
Senior VP of Engineering and Digital Emad Dlala told Out of Spec founder Kyle Conner in an interview shortly after the release that the update had addressed “90% — or even close to 95%” of known issues.
A minor follow-up patch, version 3.4.4, was deployed in early March with two fixes covering improved AC charging in certain conditions and improved Drive Assist availability and behavior, according to release notes first reported by the platform Lucid Tracker.
UX 3.5, released later in March, added Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard features alongside a Remote Start function via the Lucid Motors mobile app and a new Voice Engine for improved phone call quality.
In the wake of the late-2025 software problems, Lucid Motors restructured its software organisation, dismissing 10-year veteran Senior VP of Product and Chief Engineer Eric Bach in November 2025.
Two months later, Winterhoff confirmed at CES 2026 that the company had “basically replaced the whole software leadership team.”
A separate UX 3.0 platform overhaul is planned for the Air sedan in early fall 2026. First-generation Air owners must pay $950 for a hardware upgrade to the second-generation Center Console Control unit to receive the platform, Lucid MotorsVice President of Communications Nick Twork confirmed earlier this year.
Lucid is scheduled to report first-quarter results on May 5.
