Lucid Names Former X Marketing Chief as VP of Global Marketing

Lucid has appointed Angela Zepeda, the former Global Head of Marketing at X and chief Marketing Officer of Hyundai Motor America, as VP of Global Marketing — filling a job the company had recently disclosed as vacant.

Zepeda was named on Friday alongside Shawn Mirabal as President of North America Commercial and Mike Molino as VP of Finance.

Zepeda and Mirabal report to Billy Hayes, the Chief Customer Officer appointed in July. Molino reports to Alexander De Bock, named incoming chief financial officer on July 1 and in post from August.

The Vacancies

When chief executive Silvio Napoli restructured on July 2, the company said its new leadership team would come together at head offices and manufacturing hubs to foster closer collaboration, and that as a result its Senior VPs of Revenue and Marketing, and its VP of Program Management, “will be leaving Lucid to remain closer to their families and communities.”

It named none of the three.

The revenue title had sat with Erwin Raphael, elevated to Senior VP of Revenue in November 2025 with global sales and service under him.

The titles have changed shape in the process. Oghoghomeh was a Senior VP reporting into the layer directly beneath Napoli. Zepeda is a VP reporting to Hayes, who now owns marketing.

The Job She Inherits

Akerho “AK” Oghoghomeh joined Lucid in spring 2025 as Senior VP and Head of Marketing, arriving from Red Bull, where he had been Senior VP of Brand Marketing, and Beyond Meat, where he was Chief Marketing Officer.

He spent sixteen months there.

In that time he signed the actor Timothée Chalamet as Lucid‘s first global brand ambassador on a multi-year deal announced on July 29, 2025, and built the “Driven” campaign around him with director James Mangold, which launched alongside the Gravity.

“Bringing together Timothée and James gave us an incredible opportunity to explore how cinematic craft can bring Lucid Gravity to life,” Oghoghomeh said at the time. “James’ vision captures its versatility, performance, and handling in ways that invite people to experience the brand differently; through story, not just specification.”

He left in July. His own LinkedIn profile still lists the role as current as of Friday morning.

The team he assembled went first.

Head of growth marketing Bryson Shellito left in April, having run a full-funnel investment programme he put above $75 million across the Air and Gravity lines.

Head of integrated marketing Bobby Sherlock followed in May, nine months into the job and the second former Red Bull executive Oghoghomeh had recruited.

Who She Is

Zepeda was chief marketing officer of Hyundai Motor America for close to five years, running an organisation her profile puts at more than 300 people with annual marketing investment above $780 million.

Hyundai split the marketing function into creative and performance divisions on August 1, 2024, narrowing Zepeda’s remit to chief creative officer.

She departed later that month, and Sean Gilpin was named US chief marketing officer as she left.

The following month she was named global head of marketing at X, filling a role the platform had left vacant since Elon Musk acquired it in 2022.

“Today, I am delighted to welcome Angela Zepeda to X as our new Global Head of Marketing,” then chief executive Linda Yaccarino wrote on the platform on September 9, 2024. “X is the world’s most meaningful platform so it was essential to hire an exceptional leader like Angela to further shape our transformation.”

Yaccarino noted that Zepeda came “most recently serving as CMO/Chief Creative Officer for Hyundai.”

She held it until February 2026, and she did not leave voluntarily, according to The Wall Street Journal.

The newspaper reported on March 26 that X had let go of its Chief Marketing Officer along with more than 20 non-technical staff, in roles the WSJ said were seen as duplicative inside the merged company.

Zepeda was let go the previous month, after Musk announced the combination of xAI and SpaceX, according to people familiar with the matter cited by the paper.

X merged with xAI in 2025 while xAI and SpaceX combined last February. The Journal framed the cuts as right-sizing ahead of a potential SpaceX listing.

No announcement was made at the time, and her exit first surfaced through her LinkedIn profile, which trade publications picked up in late March.

Before Hyundai she was a senior vice president at Innocean USA, the agency holding the Hyundai account, and earlier worked at Lowe Campbell Ewald and TBWA.

The Other Two

Mirabal spent eight and a half years at Nissan, latterly as vice president for the West region from April 2019 to February 2024, running field operations across what his profile describes as 183 dealerships in eleven states.

Before that he turned round the company’s worst-performing region as vice president for the Northwest, and served as area general manager in Charlotte.

He then spent nine months as director of manufacturer relations at Berkshire Hathaway Automotive in Dallas, and from November 2024 was chief operating officer of #1 Cochran Automotive Group in Pittsburgh.

His profile describes that as a $1.8 billion business with more than 1,800 employees across 30-plus rooftops, and credits him with $6 million of profit growth during a downturn and more than $1 million in recurring efficiencies.

Lucid says he brings more than 27 years of experience across Nissan North America, FCA and Stellantis, American Honda, Berkshire Hathaway Automotive and #1 Cochran.

Molino spent about eighteen years and eight months inside the Mercedes-Benz organisation, most recently seven years and seven months as chief financial officer and chief operating officer of Mercedes-Benz Research & Development North America, with responsibility extending beyond finance into workplace services.

Earlier he was corporate controller at the same unit and, at Mercedes-Benz USA, controller of the Hybrid unit, where he implemented Daimler finance and controlling systems after the DaimlerChrysler demerger.

What Napoli Is Building

Chief executive Silvio Napoli tied each appointment to the three priorities he has used to frame the turnaround. “Shawn, Mike, and Angela are proven leaders who will each directly support our three business fundamentals: cash and cost, customer and quality, and culture and team,” he said.

Napoli became chief executive on June 1, succeeding interim chief executive Marc Winterhoff, whose chief operating officer position was eliminated on June 22 in a restructuring that also cut approximately 18% of the US workforce for annualised savings of about $158 million.

On July 2 he introduced a structure halving the number of executives reporting directly to him.

The intake brought De Bock from Metalsa, Raja Ramana Macha from Eaton as chief technology officer, Hayes from Nissan and Stellantis, and Hugo Martinho as chief transformation officer.

The rebuilding follows an unusually complete clear-out. Lucid had lost nearly its entire founding leadership across two years — chief executive, chief financial officer, general counsel, chief engineer and most of the senior team — in a run that also took its investor relations chief.

Of the original cohort, design chief Derek Jenkins remains, elevated to chief creative officer in a July restructuring the company never announced.

Cláudio Afonso founded CARBA in early 2021 and launched the news blog EV later that year.
