Volvo Cars Sells 67k Vehicles Worldwide in November, Including 14k BEVs

Volvo Cars reported on Wednesday that its November sales increased 5% year over year to 66,977 vehicles , with a 29% sales increase in Europe offsetting a 9% decline in China. Year to date, the company’s sales are up 9% at just below 690,000 units. In its best performance month of the year, in March, Volvo cars sold 78,970 vehicles globally.

Sales of battery electric vehicles (BEV) surged 59% year over year to more than 14,000 units boosted by the brand’s entry-level SUV, the EX30. The company reported a 40% year-on-year increase in sales of new energy vehicles (NEVs), which include fully electric and plug-in hybrid models, accounting for 48% of the company’s total sales in November. Fully electric vehicles represented 21% of the cars sold during the month.

The Volvo XC60 remained the best-selling model globally in November, with 21,586 units sold, although sales decreased year over year from 22,317 units. The XC40/EX40 followed with 14,613 units, compared to 16,672 last year, while the XC90 recorded sales of 10,533 units, up from 9,860 in 2023.

China was Volvo’s weakest market, with an 8% decline, and total sales at 13,923 vehicles. The company sold just 421 BEV vehicles in the country last month. European sales rose 20% year-on-year to 31,611 vehicles, with NEVs increasing 39%, accounting for 65% of total sales in the region.

In the United States, sales grew 5% to 12,259 vehicles, with NEV sales surging 58% compared to the same period last year. Plug-in hybrid models saw a 96% jump in sales.
