XPeng has started large-scale shipments of its GX flagship SUV to the Middle East and Africa, the company said on Saturday, adding that orders in the Middle East have passed 3,000 even though it has yet to publish overseas prices.

The announcement, posted on XPeng’s official Weibo account, said the GX had been shipping abroad in stages since August.

Founder and Chief Executive Officer He Xiaopeng reposted less than an hour later, writing that he looked forward “to bringing good products and technology to more XPeng fans.”

The 3,000-order figure is not new as XPeng first gave it in its October 1 delivery release. The carmaker has not said which countries the orders came from, whether they are backed by deposits, or how many vehicles have shipped so far.

The overseas push comes as the six-seat SUV’s momentum in China eases, with registrations falling for a second straight month in September to 6,780 units.

No Price Yet in the Gulf

The GX was previewed in Dubai and Abu Dhabi in July, and UAE automotive outlets reported at the time that it would go on sale in September.

Both listed AED 245,000 ($66,700) for a China-specification Ultra and AED 299,000 ($81,400) for a Gulf-specification Flagship, though they differed on whether those figures included value-added tax and neither cited an official source.

XPeng’s statement on Saturday said overseas pricing had not yet been announced, and the company has not given a launch date for the region.

Australia is also on the list. Alex Tang, XPeng’s Head of International Development, told CarExpert in July that the GX “will come” to the country and that “that car will be our global flagship,” without giving timing.

XPeng’s footprint in both regions is still being built.

Oman became its fourth Gulf Cooperation Council market, after the UAE, Qatar and Bahrain, when the company signed a distributor there in September.

Ken Wang, XPeng’s Managing Director and General Manager for the Middle East, Africa and Caucasia, said on October 13 that it had signed a distribution agreement in Nigeria, which would become its fifth African market after Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia and Mauritius.

XPeng exported 10,055 vehicles in September, according to the China Passenger Car Association, topping the record 9,700 it shipped in July.

XPeng has not said how many GX units were in that total.

Deliveries Hold, Registrations Ease

XPeng delivered 7,224 GX units in September, its third consecutive month above 7,000, the company said.

That was 17.5% of the 41,256 vehicles the group delivered in the month, and it took cumulative GX deliveries since the May 20 launch to 28,725, based on the company’s monthly figures.

Domestic registrations tell a softer story.

Registration data published by Dongchedi, ByteDance’s car platform, show 6,780 GX units registered in China in September, down 3.2% from 7,002 in August, which was itself 0.2% below July’s 7,016.

The two series are not directly comparable, because XPeng’s delivery count includes vehicles shipped overseas and the two are counted at different points in a sale.

The same data show Nio’s ES9 registering 7,706 units in September, ahead of the GX after trailing it in July, at 6,311, and in August, at 6,474.

Nio’s ES8, at 10,539, and Aito‘s M9, at 10,262, also outsold the GX.

XPeng said on October 1 that the GX had ranked in the top three among large SUVs priced above 300,000 yuan ($44,800) for two consecutive months, and Saturday’s post said it had consistently ranked there.

Dongchedi lists the ES8, M9 and ES9 above that price, and all three registered more units than the GX in September.

October Offers

XPeng has left its GX incentives unchanged for October.

A limited-time price from 269,800 yuan ($40,300) and benefits worth up to 57,500 yuan ($8,600) apply to deposits paid between October 1 and October 31, the company said in an October 1 post.

The package includes a 10,000-yuan ($1,500) cash reduction, two paint colors at no extra cost and financing offers worth up to 11,392 yuan ($1,700).

The headline price and the maximum benefit value match the September offer, which XPeng promoted in a September 23 post.

The GX lists from 279,800 yuan ($41,800) to 359,800 yuan ($53,700), well below the single 399,800-yuan ($59,700) price XPeng put on it at presale in April.

The Model

The GX is a 5,265-mm-long SUV on a 3,115-mm wheelbase and the first model on XPeng’s SEPA 3.0 architecture, sold in fully electric and extended-range versions.

The electric version uses a 91.9 kWh lithium iron phosphate pack rated at 665 km on China’s CLTC cycle on its three lower trims, and a 110 kWh nickel-manganese-cobalt pack rated at 750 km on the Ultra Flagship, the company said at launch.

The extended-range version pairs a 1.5-liter engine with a 63.3 kWh battery for 430 km of CLTC electric range and 1,585 km combined.

It is the first production model to carry the new steer-by-wire system from Bosch Huayu, a joint venture between Bosch and SAIC’s Huayu Automotive Systems.

The GX is also the base vehicle for XPENG YOYO, the robotaxi service for which XPeng opened sign-ups in China on October 8, using four in-house Turing chips.

In September, XPeng opened the silver finish used on its GX autonomous-driving validation cars to retail buyers.

Europe Gets the G9L

The GX’s role in Europe has narrowed since the spring.

Elvis Cheng, XPeng’s Managing Director for the UK and Europe, said in May that “another luxury or premium SUV” would launch in Europe in October, without saying whether he meant the GX.

The model that arrived was the G9L, a five-seater in China, which XPeng launched at the Paris Motor Show on October 12 from €74,990 ($84,300) in France, with six- and seven-seat versions not offered at home.

Magna Steyr will assemble the G9L in Graz, Austria, making it the fourth XPeng model built there after the G6, G9 and P7+, the company said.

XPeng has not announced a European launch for the GX.

The Fourth-Quarter Gap

The GX is one of the models XPeng is counting on to lift deliveries sharply in the final three months of the year.

He said on the second-quarter earnings call in August that XPeng was targeting more than 60,000 deliveries a month in the fourth quarter, about 45% above September’s total.

The company opened presales for the Mona L05 on October 15 and plans to launch it on October 29, the fourth new SUV in five months after the GX, the L03 and the G9L.

XPeng’s US-listed shares closed at $9.23 on Friday, down 4.2% on the day and their lowest close since September 18, 2024, according to Nasdaq data.

JPMorgan analyst Nick Lai downgraded XPeng to ‘Neutral’ from ‘Overweight’ with a $11.50 price target on September 29, according to a note obtained by Price Target, a platform that tracks the latest Wall Street analyst price targets, upgrades, downgrades and stock ratings.
