XPeng Launches G9L in Europe From €74,990 With Six and Seven Seats

XPeng launched its G9L flagship SUV at the Paris Motor Show on Monday, with prices starting at €74,990 ($84,000) in France and six- and seven-seat configurations that are not offered in China.

The G9L launch capped a weekend in which XPeng said its L03 SUV had drawn 12,136 orders in Europe since July and set an early 2027 European launch for the L05.

Magna Steyr will assemble the G9L at its plant in Graz, Austria, making it the fourth XPeng model assembled in Europe after the G6, G9 and P7+, the company said.

Starting prices for the G9L across eight countries range from €74,600 ($83,600) in Germany to €76,990 ($86,300) in the Netherlands, with Belgium at €74,990 ($84,000) and Austria at €75,600 ($84,700).

In the Nordic markets, the slide gave 749,900 Norwegian kroner ($78,400) for Norway, 849,900 Swedish kronor ($85,100) for Sweden and 639,995 Danish kroner ($95,900) for Denmark.

In China, where the G9L went on sale on September 17 as a five-seat SUV, limited-time prices started at 231,800 yuan($34,600).

Assembled in Graz

XPeng said on October 7 that it had completed a first production trial of the G9L at the Graz facility, where Magna Steyr already assembles XPeng’s other three European-made models.

Assembly in Austria matters because China-made XPeng EVs face a European Union countervailing duty of 20.7% on top of the standard 10% import tariff.

Founder and CEO He Xiaopeng told a media roundtable at the show that the G9L had been developed jointly in China and Europe and is produced in both regions, with the European version made in Europe.

He also said production capacity had become the central constraint for XPeng in Europe and that the company was discussing with its Austrian assembly partner how to expand output.

Neither Monday’s release nor the October 7 announcement said when series assembly of the G9L would start in Graz, how many units XPeng plans to build or when European deliveries would begin.

XPeng also makes the G9L at its own plant in Guangzhou, where it started right-hand-drive production in September, with the first batch going to Australia.

Seats, Range and Charging

The European G9L comes in six-seat and seven-seat versions, plus front seats XPeng calls “AI-Adaptive,” according to the release.

In China, XPeng sells the G9L only as a two-row, five-seat SUV.

The SUV is 5,120 millimeters long with a 3,100-millimeter wheelbase, according to XPeng’s China specifications.

XPeng said the battery-electric variants offer up to 591 kilometers of range on the WLTP cycle used in Europe.

Its 800-volt architecture and 5C charging allow a 10% to 80% charge in as little as 11.7 minutes, the company said.

The release referred to “EV variants” but did not say whether the extended-range version sold in China would come to Europe.

The company said the SUV had been tested for three years across 26 countries and regions, covering more than 6.74 million kilometers.

XPeng said earlier this month that the G9L had completed 192 crash tests and comes with dual-chamber air suspension and rear-wheel steering of up to 15 degrees as standard.

Driving Software on Show

XPeng paired the launch with what it called the first large-scale public test rides of its NGP assisted-driving system, powered by its VLA 2.0 model, in Europe.

The rides take passengers through roundabouts, narrow streets, motorcycle traffic, pedestrian crossings and complex right-of-way situations, the company said.

XPeng is also showing NGP in the show’s official Autonomous Lab, where it is one of only two participating carmakers, alongside Tesla.

The company said VLA 2.0 can retain up to 30 seconds of context and predict how a scene may unfold up to six seconds ahead.

XPeng aims to become the first carmaker in the world certified under UN Regulation No. 171, Series 02, the international rule on driver control assistance systems.

The company has said it plans to launch NGP in Europe in early 2027.

XPeng also said it was offering its artificial-intelligence and vehicle-engineering technology to automotive and technology partners outside China for the first time.

It already develops electrical and electronic architecture for Volkswagen‘s cars in China.

A Wider European Push

XPeng said on October 1 that it had delivered more than 100,000 vehicles outside China, including over 60,000 in Europe.

The company now operates in 82 countries and regions, with eight research and development centers, six manufacturing bases and 1,283 stores, according to the release.

Its 1,000-square-meter stand in Hall 6, the brand shows 11 vehicles, including the G9L, L03, P7+, G6, G9 and X9.

The display also includes a Land Aircraft Carrier, the modular flying car from XPeng’s aviation affiliate, and two of XPeng’s IRON humanoid robots, which the company said are planned for global rollout in 2027.

The public days of the Paris Motor Show run until October 18.
