Xiaomi Anticipates Launch of Fully Electric SUV to End of June

Chinese tech giant Xiaomi said on Monday it will launch its second model at the end of June, moving up the launch originally planned for July.

The pre-launch event for the YU7 SUV took place in late May, with demo units arriving in showrooms across China over the past few weeks.

Xiaomi co-founder and CEO Lei Jun announced the new timeline in a post on Weibo this Monday by teasing the launch of several new products at the upcoming event.

“We are preparing, see you at the end of the month!” Lei wrote.

Deliveries in China are expected to begin in July. Xiaomi said it expects its EV business to turn profitable in the second half of 2025.

Lei told investors earlier this month that pricing for the YU7 will be finalised just days before the launch but denied reports suggesting it would start at 235,900 yuan, which would be equivalent to $32,500.

The YU7 will be offered in three versions: a single-motor standard variant with an 835 km (520 miles) range and two dual-motor all-wheel-drive models — the Pro at 770 km and the Max at 760 km. The top version can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.23 seconds.

The brand revealed the model’s full interior, which features a T-shaped layout and a detachable center console screen. Earlier this month, pictures of its interior were leaked online, showing a different dashboard when compared to the SU7.

According to Lei Jun, the model offers 50,000 to 60,000 yuan ($7,000 to $8,300) more value than the Tesla‘s Model Y. This highlights Xiaomi‘s push to compete directly with Tesla’s updated SUV in China.

The company debuted a year ago with its SU7 sedan, which was able to outperform Tesla’s Model 3 sales within eight months in the market. In February, the Ultra version was launched.

The SU7 is currently priced from 299,900 yuan ($41,000), while the Ultra starts at 529,900 yuan ($73,000).

The debut sedan sold over 100,000th units by the end of 2024. Xiaomi expects deliveries to reach 350,000 units this year.
