Tesla’s Sweden Sales Plunge 85.8% in July, Year to Date Decline Hits 63%

Data shared by the Mobility Sweden association on Friday revealed that Tesla sales in the Scandinavian country plunged 85.8% year over year in July to just 163 vehicles.

Vehicle registrations also declined in France and Denmark last month, marking the seventh consecutive monthly drop in both markets.

In France, Tesla registered 1,307 new vehicles last month, down 27% from a year earlier while Danish sales plunged 52% year-on-year to 336 units.

The figures in Sweden were down 83.3% from June’s total of 976 vehicles. In July, the Elon Musk-led company registered 117 Model Y units, 44 Model 3s, and one unit each of the Model S and Model X.

From January 1 to July 31, the company sold 3,774 vehicles.

Year to date registrations in the Swedish market are now 63.4% below the 10,338 units sold in the same period a year ago.

A total of 17,684 new passenger cars were registered in Sweden in July, up 8% from the same month last year. Electrified vehicles accounted for 62.3% of registrations, with fully electric cars making up 34.9% and plug-in hybrids 27.4%.

The entry-level SUV’s prices begin at 554,990 SEK ($58,300). The Model 3 sedan, which is priced from 484,990 SEK ($50,900), represented 44 units.

Tesla’s lineup includes the flagship Model S and Model X, however, it is only selling inventory units in the country.

Tesla is currently offering a 40,000 SEK trade-in bonus for customers purchasing a Model Y or Model 3 from July 18 and August 15, and taking delivery by August 30.

Last week, the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA) revealed that Tesla sold 70,655 vehicles in the European Union in the first half of 2025.

This represents a 43.7% plunge in registrations year over year. In the first six months of 2024, the US brand had listed 125,606 vehicles across the EU.

In July, Polestar sales in Sweden fell 47% sequentially despite the 43% year on year growth. Vehicle registrations of China’s giant BYD fell both year over year and sequentially to 68 plug-in hybrid and fully electric units.
