Tesla’s Sales in the Netherlands Halve Again in October

Tesla’s sales in the Netherlands fell year over year for the tenth consecutive month in October, data from the national association BOVAG showed on Monday.

Last month’s figures also marked Tesla’s third weakest sales month this year.

The company led by Elon Musk sold 645 vehicles in October, down from 1,238 in the same month last year — nearly a 50% drop.

October figures were only above April (382) and July (443), confirming a pattern of weaker early-quarter sales that follow an increase in registrations in the last month of the prior quarter.

Tesla had registered 2,006 vehicle sales in the Dutch market in September.

2025 Performance so far

Over the first ten months of the year, the company sold 10,777 vehicles in the Netherlands from January 1 to October 31, nearly halving from the 21,217 units registered in the first ten months of 2024.

Tesla‘s downward sales trend continues in several European markets.

In Sweden, registrations plummeted — with only 133 vehicles sold.

The figures represented an 89% decline from last year and a 92% month-over-month fall.

In Norway, where Tesla had been setting new monthly sales records, the company’s figures fell year over year for the first time in six months — to 671 units.

Standard Model Y

Both the refreshed Model Y crossover and the Model 3 sedan are priced from €39,990 ($46,100) in the country.

Last month, the company launched the Standard version of the Model Y in Europe, just two days after its domestic debut.

At that time, GigaBerlin chief Andre Thierig confirmed that the model would be produced at the European plant.

According to Tesla’s website, deliveries to the Netherlands are expected between November and December.

Last month, the Model Y accounted for 617 units, while the Model 3 represented only 24 vehicles.

The SUV was the fifth best-selling model overall across all powertrains and the third best-selling among electric vehicles specifically.

The Škoda Elroq led sales across all powertrains, with over 1,700 registrations, and was followed by Kia’s EV3 and Picanto.

Refreshed Flagship Models

Up until the end of September, the brand listed inventory units of the previous iteration of its flagship models — the Model S and the Model Y.

Tesla has since then introduced the refreshed version of both luxury models in the country.

Customers can purchase the Model X from €115,990 and the Model S from €110,990.

Each model represented two of the total units sold by the company last month in the Netherlands.

EV Adoption

In October, 34,724 new passenger cars were registered in the Netherlands, up 8.3% year over year.

Of those, 13,968 were fully electric vehicles.

The share of fully electric vehicles rose 27.4% from a year ago, with EVs representing 40.2% of vehicle sales in the country.

Hybrid models increased to 16,198 units — reaching a 46.6% market share in October.

This indicates that new energy vehicles represented 86.9% of the Dutch auto market last month.

In October, China’s automotive giant BYD sold 399 hybrid and fully electric vehicles, while XPeng registered 176 electric vehicles.

Shanghai-based Nio Group registered 19 vehicles, including 10 from its premium Nio brand and 9 from its newly launched Firefly model.
