Tesla to roll out software update to 26k China-Made vehicles regarding defrosting system

According to the Chinese State Administration for Market Regulation, Tesla Inc. is adjusting the OTA software on 26,047 China-Made vehicles produced between December 28, 2020 and January 15, 2022.

The statement says that “because the software (versions 2021.44 to 2021.44.30.6) does not have a correction function, it may cause the valve part to open, the heat pump compressor to stop working, and the heating function in the car will fail for a long time. Under the above conditions, especially when the temperature outside the car is below minus 10 degrees (celsius), the windshield defrosting system cannot achieve the defrosting effect stipulated in the relevant national laws and regulations. The decline of the defrosting function has a negative impact on the driver’s vision, thus increasing the possibility of collision risk of the vehicle driving in cold weather, and there are potential safety hazards.”

“Tesla will upgrade the software for vehicles within the scope of recall through vehicle remote upgrade (OTA) technology, and users can complete the recall without going to the store. For vehicles that cannot be recalled through vehicle remote upgrade (OTA) technology, Tesla Service Center contacted relevant users to upgrade the software for vehicles for free to eliminate potential safety hazards.” — says the statement. Recently, Tesla Inc adjusted 578,607 vehicles in the United States because pedestrians may be unaware of an approaching vehicle if warning risk sounds are obscured, U.S. regulators said Thursday. NHTSA said the vehicles fail to comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard on minimum sound requirements for electric vehicles.

The company has been under increasing scrutiny from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Tesla has issued 11 U.S. recalls over the last four months.
