The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced on Tuesday that Tesla will issue a software update on approximately 1.8 million vehicles in the U.S. following a software failure that may not detect an unlatched hood.
The recall affects certain models of Tesla’s popular electric vehicles, including the 2021-2024 Model 3, Model S, Model X, and 2020-2024 Model Y.
According to NHTSA, the software glitch could result in the hood remaining unlatched, which in turn could open fully while driving and obstruct the driver’s view, thereby significantly increasing the risk of a crash.
The company is expected to send out notification letters to affected vehicle owners by September 22nd.
On Monday, Morgan Stanley analyst Adam Jonas published a new research note, reaffirming an Overweight rating and a $310 price target on the stock. The firm has nominated the stock its “New Top Pick” in the U.S. automotive sector.
Speaking virtually at the “X Takeover” event held on Sunday, Tesla CEO Elon Musk hinted that the upcoming Roadster model will be able to fly.
Musk added that a demo will take place “sometime next year” adding that it “will be mind-blowing”.
