In recent weeks, Tesla has been reducing prices in its primary markets, including China and the United States. This initiative aligns with the introduction of lower or even 0% interest financing programs for selected models in certain markets.

A Tesla spokesperson told Reuters that the automaker reduced prices in other countries across Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Germany

In Germany, the electric car manufacturer has reduced this weekend the price of its Model 3 rear-wheel-drive (RWD) variant to 40,990 euros ($43,670) from its previous level of 42,990 euros, maintained since February. The all-wheel-drive (AWD) variant has seen a similar reduction, now priced at 49,990 euros.

Last week, Tesla reintroduced a 0% financing offer in Germany, marking the second instance in 2024. This reimplementation closely follows the relaunch of a similar financing incentive in China.

Last week, Tesla also announced the departure of 300 temporary workers in Germany, consistent with their contract terms, as part of the company’s ongoing efforts to streamline its global workforce.

The electric automaker employs approximately 12,500 individuals at its Berlin plant, where it produces Model Y for its European markets.

March statistics in Germany reveal the Tesla Model Y as the top-selling electric model, with 3,244 units sold, capturing a 10% market share among Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs).

United States

Tesla slashed prices by nearly $2,000 on the Model S, Model X, and Model Y in the United States on Saturday. The Model Y’s starting price now stands at $42,990 before government incentives. Prices for the Model 3 sedan and the Cybertruck remain unchanged.

The adjustments resulted in a reduced starting price of $42,990 for the Model Y, $72,990 for the Model S, and $77,990 for the Model X.

Additionally, Tesla reduced the US price of its “Full Self-Driving” software from $12,000 to $8,000 while in Canada the price dropped from CA$16,000 to $11,000. The purchase price reduction followed the cut on the subscription by 50 percent that was announced on April 12.

China

Price reductions continued on Sunday as Tesla lowered the starting price of the Model 3, Y, S and X in China by 14,000 yuan ($1,930). Tesla’s revamped Model 3 starts now at 231,900 yuan ($32,000) in the country.

Cybertruck Recall

In parallel developments, Tesla has issued a recall for 3,878 Cybertrucks to address a potential issue with the accelerator pedal pad coming loose and becoming lodged in the interior trim, as per the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

A trapped accelerator pedal poses the risk of unintentional acceleration, thereby increasing the likelihood of accidents, according to the auto safety regulator.

Rumors and Future Developments

Reports in early April suggested Tesla’s abandonment of plans to launch a $25,000 model. However, CEO Elon Musk quickly dismissed these claims without providing further details.

In a subsequent announcement on the same day, Musk revealed plans for Tesla to unveil its highly anticipated robotaxi on August 8th, built upon the company’s next-generation vehicle platform.

Analysts have weighed in on the ongoing debate between the Model 2 and the Robotaxi, with Wedbush analyst Daniel Ives noting on Friday investor expectations for the Model 2 announcement within the next 12 to 18 months.

Tesla is recalling 3,878 Cybertrucks to fix an accelerator pedal pad that could come loose and get lodged in the interior trim, the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said recently.

A trapped accelerator pedal could cause the vehicle to accelerate unintentionally, increasing the risk of a crash, the auto safety regulator said in a notice.
