Rivian to Make Forest Green and Coastal Cloud Available for Order on R2 ‘Later in August’

Rivian said that its Forest Green exterior color and Coastal Cloud Signature interior will become available on the R2 configurator “later in August,” reaffirming the timeline the company’s website has displayed since the configurator launched in mid-May.

The confirmation came through a series of replies on X earlier this month, when Rivian‘s official account responded to reservation holders asking about the two options.

Both Coastal Cloud Signature and Forest Green have been listed as “Coming August” on the R2 build page since orders opened.

The company had not publicly commented on the window until last week’s posts.

Forest Green and Coastal Cloud Signature are two of three color options Rivian has held back from the R2 Launch Edition.

Their arrival will widen the R2’s build combinations for the first time since customer deliveries began in June, giving reservation holders access to a seventh exterior color and a second interior for the first time.

Forest Green Joins at $1,500

Forest Green is a carryover shade from the R1 lineup and one of two exterior colors the EV maker excluded from the initial six-color Launch Edition palette when it detailed the R2 Performance Launch Package in late April.

The configurator lists it at $1,500, placing it in the same pricing tier as Half Moon Grey — one of the three new colors Rivian designed specifically for the R2 platform.

Both sit between Glacier White at $1,000 and the $2,000 group that includes Catalina Cove, Launch Green and Midnight.

Esker Silver remains the only no-cost exterior option on the R2, consistent with the paid-color convention Rivian applies across its lineup.

The $1,500 price tag makes Forest Green the most affordable of the darker shades on the R2.

Midnight, the only other deep-toned color currently in production, carries a $2,000 surcharge.

Catalina Cove led early R2 builds at 38.0% of VIN-assigned orders as of mid-July, followed by Half Moon Grey at 25.4%, Launch Green at 18.3% and Glacier White at 15.5%. Midnight accounted for 2.8% of the sample.

Coastal Cloud Interior

Coastal Cloud Signature is the R2’s second interior option, joining the standard Black Crater Signature that has been the only choice available since deliveries began.

Rivian described it in April as a lighter palette with cool coastal sky tones, paired with upcycled Birch wood and soft textile accents — the same material family used in Black Crater but in a cooler, lighter tone.

The upgrade adds $1,000 to the build price, while Black Crater remains included at no additional cost.

The addition doubles the number of interior-exterior combinations available to R2 buyers.

Borealis Follows in September

Rivian also addressed questions about Borealis, the deep purple shade it introduced at Miami Art Week in December 2025 as a limited edition on the R1 lineup.

The company initially told a reservation holder on X that Borealis would become available later in August alongside Coastal Cloud and Forest Green, before posting a correction: “Slight correction: Cloud Coastal Signature later this month, and Borealis coming next month! We just get too excited for Borealis to join.”

The configurator lists Borealis at $2,000, matching the price of Catalina Cove, Launch Green and Midnight.

The September target represents a significant acceleration from previous expectations — Borealis was restricted to the broader Performance trim and not expected until 2027 when the Launch Edition details were published in April.

With Forest Green and Borealis accounted for, all eight announced R2 exterior colors now have confirmed pricing and availability windows on the configurator.

Esker Silver is included at no additional cost, while the Glacier White adds $1,000.

R2 Production Ramp

The expanded configurator options arrive as Rivian scales R2 output at its Normal, Illinois, plant.

VIN assignments have neared 6,000 units ahead of a second production shift that chief operating officer Javier Varela said on the July 30 earnings call would start by the end of the third quarter.

Rivian has guided to 20,000 to 25,000 R2 deliveries this year, with the bulk expected in the second half.

The company raised its full-year delivery target to 65,000 to 70,000 vehicles across the lineup.

Reservation holders have meanwhile seen order windows move earlier in at least two waves since July, with some invitations advancing by up to three months.

The R2 Performance with Launch Package is priced from $57,990 and remains the only trim available to order.

Rivian has said the Premium trim at $53,990 is expected to begin deliveries later this year, with the Standard Long Range at $48,490 following in the first half of 2027, despite the CEO having stated three times during the earnings call that both were only expected early next year.
