Model Y L Reference Spotted in Tesla’s European Configurator-Page Code

The string “Model Y L” has surfaced in the JavaScript source code of Tesla‘s European Model Y configurators, in the first public sighting of the six-seat SUV’s name in the region’s configurator-page code.

A screenshot of the code on the French configurator, first noticed on Monday by X user ‘9bzr22ckm9’, comes as the model’s European launch is imminent.

EV independently verified the string across five European markets — and found the same code served, in the same file, on Tesla‘s US configurator, where the Model Y L has been on sale since July.

EV inspected every script loaded by Tesla‘s Model Y configurator pages in France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Portugal on Monday.

Each market serves an identical file containing a single occurrence of the string, placed in the code that handles trim names.

The US Control

The same inspection run on Tesla‘s US Model Y configurator returned the identical bundle, with the identical single occurrence of the string.

The Model Y L launched in the US on July 2 at $61,990 as a fully loaded Launch Series, with American deliveries scheduled to begin in October.

A trim-name check for a vehicle already listed on the US order page therefore has a mundane explanation that requires no European launch at all.

No public baseline shows when the string first entered the bundle.

A Redesigned Order Page

The code sighting follows an overhaul of Tesla‘s European order pages in the same markets days earlier.

The redesigned pages reached Germany, France, Italy and Spain on August 5, with the United Kingdom and additional markets following on August 7.

The European pages inspected by EV now carry the trim architecture Tesla introduced in the US alongside the Model Y L’s July debut, grouping versions by drive type under the Model Y, Model Y Premium and Model Y Performance names.

In the US, that structure is the one that houses the six-seater, which sits above the Performance at its $61,990 Launch Series price.

The European Signals

The regulatory path is already clear: the Netherlands Vehicle Authority (RDW) granted the six-seat variant EU type approval in December, and approval documents typically arrive a few months before a model goes on sale.

Camouflaged Model Y L prototypes on German plates have been photographed testing on German roads and at the Nürburgring in recent weeks, with the first track sighting reported by Carwow.

Under the EU documents, the China-built SUV measures about 4,976 millimeters (196 inches) in length on a 3,040-millimeter wheelbase — roughly 186 millimeters and 150 millimeters more than the standard car — with a WLTP rating of up to 681 kilometers (423 miles).

Filling the Model X Gap

A European Model Y L would land in a lineup that has lost its only large SUV.

Tesla ended Model S and Model X production this year, leaving European buyers who need three rows with the seven-seat option added to the standard Model Y, a configuration that keeps the original wheelbase and drew criticism as suitable mainly for children.

The extended SUV sold through its 2025 allocation in China, where deliveries began in September 2025 from 339,000 yuan and the model outsold the Nio ES8, Onvo L90 and Li Auto i8 in the three-row segment, and has since reached Australia, New Zealand, the Philippines, South Korea and Singapore.

Chief Executive Elon Musk had initially played down an expansion beyond China, saying in August 2025 the model “might not ever” reach the US — a position reversed by July’s launch.

A fresh European volume model would also arrive at a low point for the brand on the continent: Tesla registered 367 vehicles in Germany in July, down 66.9% from a year earlier, and posted its weakest months on record in Norway and Spain.

What Tesla Has Not Said

Tesla has not announced a European launch date, price or trim structure for the Model Y L.

The company has not said whether the European version will mirror the single six-seat configuration sold in China and the US, and no European market currently lists the model on its order page.
