Onvo’s L90: What We Know So Far About the Second Model From Nio’s Sub-Brand

Onvo, the family-oriented sub-brand of the EV maker Nio, is set to open pre-orders for its second model — the flagship three-row L90 SUV — on July 10, with display vehicles scheduled to arrive in showrooms across China also this week.

Although the exact pricing was not yet revealed, the company’s founder and CEO William Li stated in a live stream on Sunday that the model will “definitely” be priced under 300,000 yuan ($41,900).

“The starting price for the L90 will definitely be under 300,000 yuan — there’s no way else; we all have to go all out now,” the executive said.

In a Weibo post, Onvo‘s chief Fei Shen added that “deliveries will begin soon.”

In April, co-founder and President Lihong Qin had mentioned that deliveries were planned to begin in August.

The model was unveiled in late April at the Shanghai Auto Show, weeks after Onvo‘s leadership shifted, with Fei Shen replacing former brand head Alan Ai — who left after missed sales targets for its debut L60 in the first months of the year.

The brand’s second model will initially be manufactured in Nio‘s F2 factory in Hefei.

The group’s third factory, also located in Anhui province, will start production in September.

According to a recent filing by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the SUV measures 5,145 mm in length, 1,998 mm in width and 1,766-1,786 in height. The model has a wheelbase of 3,110 mm.

The L90 adopts a 900V powertrain and will be available in both rear drive and four-wheel-drive options.

It will be feature either a single 340 kW motor or a dual-motor setup combining a 100 kW motor and a 340 kW motor. It can reach a top speed of 200 km/h.

The model will have a battery pack with a capacity of 85 kWh. For comparison, the smaller L60, equipped with a 85 kWh battery, achieves a CLTC range of 730 km — equivalent to 450 miles.

Earlier on Monday, Onvo‘s CEO shared a video on Weibo showing hundreds of vehicles automatically self-inspecting over 1,000 functions before leaving the factory.

Late last month, Fei Shen highlighted the spacious interior of the L90 when compared with the other three-row SUVs available in the Chinese market.

“Compared with existing large three-row SUVs on the market, it offers ‘three rows comfortable enough to sleep in and double the luggage capacity,’ solving the pain point of ‘seats for people but no room for luggage,’ and enabling users to enjoy true space freedom,” Shen said.

The six-seater will have a five-seat iteration later this year — which was previously expected to be the L80, a smaller model. It is set to launch in the fourth quarter.

The Group aims for Onvo sales to reach 25,000 units per month in the fourth quarter, according to William Li.

Last week, Nio reported that Onvo registered 6,400 vehicles in June — its strongest month year to date and second-best since it launched last September.
