Nio Group‘s family oriented brand Onvo announced on Monday that it has reached its 20,000th delivery of the L90 SUV, nearly two months after deliveries began.
“Since deliveries began on August 1, the Onvo L90 has reached 20,000 units in less than two months, setting a record as the fastest-delivered large SUV and leading three-row SUVs into the pure-electric era,” the company stated.
On August 29, the company delivered the 10,000th L90, at the Chengdu Auto Show.
The three-row SUV was launched in late July, with a starting price of 265,800 yuan ($37,260), or 179,800 yuan ($25,200), if including Nio‘s Battery as a Service (BaaS).
Over the weekend, Nio Group‘s most recent sub-brand Firefly also achieved its 20,000th unit delivered, less than five months after sales began in China.
Last week, Onvo Chief Fei Shen reiterated that the company plans to produce 15,000 units of its newly launched L90 three-row SUV in October.
The sub-brand’s target had been previously set during Nio‘s second quarter earnings call by the founder and CEO of the Group, William Li, on September 2.
To stem cancellations for the new model as it struggled with production ramp-up, Onvo introduced an “L90 Waiting Points” programme for pending orders.
According to the brand, if the car isn’t delivered within 28 days of the order lock, customers accrue 500 points per day from day 29.
Production for Nio Group’s three brands — its premium brand, Onvo, and Firefly — is currently underway at its two factories in Hefei, with a third one set to start manufacturing later this month.
Last week, Nio shares jumped after a local media report said the electric vehicle maker had quietly begun production at its third factory in China’s Anhui Province.
The Shanghai-based company is focusing on ramping up production of both its most recent large SUVs — the Onvo L90 and the third-gen Nio ES8, which debuted on the annual ‘Nio Day’ event on September 20.
A day earlier, the EV maker launched a refreshed iteration of Onvo‘s first model, the L60. The minor facelift aims to boost demand of the smaller SUV.
Onvo said that deliveries of the refreshed L60 are “expected to start gradually in mid-to-late October.“
