XPeng’s GX flagship SUV set a monthly wholesale record of 7,338 units globally in August, up 2.8% from 7,140 in July, according to China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) data published on Tuesday.
Despite the new high, the GX slipped from second to third in the Guangzhou-based company’s lineup, after having jumped to the position in just its third month in the market.
The Mona L03 compact SUV recorded 9,668 global units in its first full calendar month, overtaking both the Mona M03 sedan and the GX to become the brand’s best-selling model both globally and domestically.
The full-sized SUV is the most expensive vehicle in XPeng’s lineup, listed with prices starting from 279,800 to 359,800 yuan ($41,700–$53,600).
At that price range, August’s wholesale volume implies between 2.05 billion and 2.64 billion yuan ($305 million–$393 million) in revenue from the model alone — exceeding the 2.00 billion to 2.57 billion yuan ($296–$381 million) generated in July.
No trim-level breakdown is published, as wholesale figures record shipments to the dealer network rather than customer handovers.
Last May, of the 24,863 orders collected in the first 12 hours, 80% were for higher end trims.
Domestic Run-Rate
CPCA data show the GX registered 7,002 retail units in the Chinese market in August.
Domestically, the model had moved 7,016 in July and 6,737 in June, suggesting the domestic run-rate has stabilized around 7,000 units per month.
Cumulative wholesale registrations through August stand at about 21,500, spanning 284 in the partial May launch, 6,739 in June, 7,140 in July and 7,338 in August.
Delivery waiting times have contracted sharply since launch, when the fully electric flagship trim carried a 26-to-30-week window.
On Monday, XPeng’s configurator showed the cheapest extended-range trims at two to five weeks, while the AWD Ultra Flagship — the most expensive configuration — still faces seven to ten.
September will be the first month that tests underlying demand rather than the backlog.
Exports Jump
Overseas shipments of the GX reached 336 units in August, more than doubling from 124 in July and marking the model’s highest export month to date.
Exports had started with just 14 units in the partial May launch and two in June before the July acceleration.
GX exports remain a small fraction of XPeng’s broader 8,125-unit August export total, accounting for about 4.1%.
The G6 compact SUV still dominates overseas shipments at 3,606 units, or 44.4% of the month.
XPeng has said the GX will launch in Europe later this year.
According to founder and CEO He Xiaopeng, overseas buyers had placed more than 1,000 blind orders.
The model is currently offered for pre-order through XPeng’s UAE and Australia sites.
The company assembles the G6, G9 and P7+ at Magna Steyr’s plant in Graz, Austria, from semi-knockdown kits.
A fourth model will join the Graz line before year-end, He has stated, without confirming whether the GX will be among the European-assembled vehicles.
Lineup Reshuffled
The L03’s arrival in mid-July reshuffled the top of XPeng’s sales chart.
In July, the brand’s two best-selling models sat at opposite ends of the pricing spectrum: the Mona M03 — the cheapest — led at 10,357 units, while the GX — the most expensive — followed immediately behind at 7,140.
In August, the compact SUV topped the lineup at 8,424 vehicles sold at home, the M03 posted 8,374 domestic retail sales, and the GX came third with 7,002 in China.
The company is under pressure to increase its vehicle margin over the following quarters after reporting a year over year decline in Q2 2026 at 12.1% — from 14.3% in Q2 2025.
In late August, when reporting its second quarter results, XPeng said that the year over year vehicle margin decline was “due to product generation transition” without giving further details.
XPeng’s US-listed shares were trading at $10.91 as of publication time, close to the lowest point since October 2024 — 23 months ago.
Even considering overseas sales, the three models accounted for over 60% of XPeng’s 39,107 global deliveries in August.
The GX’s drop in ranking came despite the model posting a higher absolute figure than any prior month.
Volume edged 2.8% higher sequentially while the new L03 ramped quickly enough to leapfrog both established leaders.
XPeng is targeting 550,000 to 600,000 global deliveries in 2026.
Cumulative deliveries through August stand at 243,111, or 44.2% of the lower bound with four months remaining.
He Xiaopeng told analysts in August he expects monthly deliveries to exceed 60,000 in the fourth quarter, with the G9L entering China deliveries in September and the Mona L05 mid-size SUV due in Q4.
