Rivian has made the Forest Green exterior and the Coastal Cloud Signature interior generally available to order on the R2 on Wednesday, closing a window its configurator had labelled “Coming August” since orders opened in May.
“Forest Green is now available across the R2 lineup,” the company said in a story on its website. “Coastal Cloud Signature, new to the R2 interior lineup, joins it on Performance and Premium.” Rivian posted videos for each option on X the following day.
The announcement is the third step in a rollout EV has tracked since early August.
Rivian first confirmed the “later in August” timing in replies to reservation holders on X, EV reported on August 7.
On August 18 and 19 it emailed “select early R2 reservation holders” offering both options “for a limited time before becoming available to other reservation holders.”
The first Coastal Cloud car reached a customer within a week, EV reported on August 26. Wednesday’s announcement removes the early-access restriction.
Chip Newcom, Rivian’s VP of Investor Relations, cited the interior on Tuesday at Goldman Sachs’s Communacopia conference as an example of each new option bringing “increased interest” from reservation holders, saying Rivian had “just launched” Coastal Cloud.
What Changed
Forest Green, a carryover shade from the R1 range, is priced at $1,500, the same tier as Half Moon Grey, between Glacier White at $1,000 and the $2,000 group of Catalina Cove, Launch Green and Midnight.
Esker Silver remains the only no-cost paint. Rivian describes the colour as “the deep green of a canopy seen from below, with enough metallic flake in the paint to catch light the way leaves do when shifting with the wind.”
Coastal Cloud Signature, at $1,000, is the R2’s second interior after the standard Black Crater Signature, “inspired by the crisp tones of a cloudy coastal sky” with upcycled birch wood and textile accents, on Rivian’s second-generation Adventex material, which it says “wipes down after a sandy afternoon at the beach or a morning on muddy trails.”
The Premium listing is the new element.
Rivian’s footnote says availability “may vary by trim, configuration and market,” and the Performance with Launch Package at $57,990 remains the only R2 that can be ordered.
The Premium at $53,990 is due to begin deliveries later this year and the Standard at $48,490 in the first half of 2027, per Rivian’s July guidance.
Coastal Cloud is the first R2 option Rivian has confirmed for the Premium ahead of its opening.
Demand and Delivery
Owners who ordered the new options in August were quoted eight to twelve weeks for delivery, against four to eight for launch colours, which is the cost of holding options off the first production batches.
A Rivian Roamer sample of owner-linked configurations, as compiled, puts Coastal Cloud at 18% of tracked builds and Forest Green at 5% within weeks of opening, with one Coastal Cloud car delivered against 131 on order and no Forest Green delivered.
Those are community counts, not Rivian figures.
Community-tracked VIN assignments passed 9,400 by August 29, from about 6,000 in early August, at 115 to 120 a day on a single shift.
The second shift at Normal is planned for later this month. Rivian has guided to 20,000 to 25,000 R2 deliveries in 2026 within 65,000 to 70,000 overall.
Borealis
Borealis, the deep purple introduced on the R1 at Miami Art Week in December 2025 and priced at $2,000 on the R2, is the last of the eight announced exterior colours still to open.
Rivian’s “Path to Ownership” page continues to list it for September, the timing Rivian gave on X in August after correcting an earlier reply that had bundled it with the August pair: “Slight correction: Cloud Coastal Signature later this month, and Borealis coming next month! We just get too excited for Borealis to join.”
