Lucid Reopens Plan for Right-Hand Drive Gravity, CEO Says

Lucid Motors has reopened internal discussions on producing a right-hand drive (RHD) version of its upcoming Gravity SUV, interim chief executive Marc Winterhoff said at the model’s European launch.

Asked about UK ambitions, Winterhoff said the company is reassessing the business case for adapting the Gravity to right-hand drive markets while emphasising that not only the UK would receive it.

“We just reopened the plan for Gravity,” Winterhoff said. “In the last couple of weeks we looked at all the data and the potential volumes.”

The decision could expand the reach of the California-based EV maker to new RHD markets such as Singapore, Japan, Australia, or India.

“It’s not only the UK — it’s other right-hand drive markets throughout the world that we can tackle with that, so it’s in the making,” the interim chief added.

Winterhoff cautioned that Lucid’s long-term UK entry is more likely to be led by its mid-size platform, which will underpin future, lower-priced models. “Right-hand drive obviously is an additional investment, and it’s always a business case,” he said.

Lucid currently sells its Air sedan in four European countries — Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland and Norway.

As first reported by EV in December, Lucid will add Belgium to its network.

As reported on Tuesday, Winterhoff said the automaker plans to expand into France, Belgium, Denmark and five more markets in 2026.

The Gravity SUV, Lucid’s second model after the Air, is planned to surpass the Air sedan in deliveries in the second half of the year as production ramp up continues in Arizona.

In June, Hamilton told Spanish outlet Marca that Lucid aimed to establish a presence in the five largest European markets—Germany, the UK, France, Italy and Spain—within 18 months.

Lucid currently has showrooms in eight European cities: Oslo, Hamburg, Cologne, Frankfurt, Munich, Geneva, Hilversum and the newly opened Zurich studio.
