US EV maker Lucid Motors registered 29 vehicles across Europe last month, up from just ten units recorded a year ago.
Official figures show that the premium brand has nearly tripled its registrations year over year, while also seeing a five-unit increase from March.
The year-over-year comparison covers a period before Lucid had begun Gravity deliveries in Europe — a launch that has now started.
While several Gravity units have been registered across Europe in the past months, it remains unclear whether any of these vehicles has been delivered to customers or if they were registered for showroom and press purposes only.
Lucid is currently present in the Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland and Norway.
In Norway — the country where more than 98% of the vehicles registered are fully electric — Lucid hasn’t sold any vehicles since one unit was registered in January.
Germany
The majority of the 29 vehicles were registered in Germany, the largest auto market in Europe.
According to data published on Thursday by the KBA, Lucid registered 21 vehicles there — 15 units above April 2025 and six units above March.
As the KBA does not provide a breakdown per model, it remains unclear how many of these were Lucid Airs and how many were Gravity SUVs.
The first Lucid Gravity delivered by a distributor took place this week in Germany.
The model was delivered through Wackenhut Group, the EV maker’s first retail partner in Europe, as exclusively reported by EV earlier this year.
Lucid‘s management announced last year it was seeking dealership agreements in Europe, besides its direct-to-consumer business model, as demand continued to slow in the continent.
Switzerland
Last month, a total of five Lucid vehicles were registered in Switzerland, a two-unit increase both year over year and sequentially.
Of the five, three were Gravity SUVs — similar to the previous month — and two were Lucid Airs.
In February, a Lucid employee in Switzerland wrote on LinkedIn that Gravity deliveries were officially beginning, with the first vehicles making their way onto Swiss roads.
However, as the first delivery was announced this Wednesday, it remains unclear whether any SUV has been delivered to a Swiss customer.
Lucid opened its first retail location in Switzerland in November 2022 in Geneva, making it one of the company’s earliest European markets.
The EV maker’s newly appointed CEO Silvio Napoli — who led the Swiss elevator company Schindler for 30 years — recently visited the company’s showroom and service center in Zurich, according to several employees on LinkedIn.
He will take over the CEO role when he receives US authorization, replacing outgoing interim CEO Marc Winterhoff, who returns to the Chief Operations Officer role.
Netherlands
The company registered three vehicles in the Netherlands in April — two Gravity SUVs and one Air sedan — bringing the year-to-date total to 10 units.
The single Air registration marks the first sale of the sedan in the Dutch market since December, when 12 units were listed.
Lucid‘s debut sedan went unsold throughout the entire first quarter, during which the company registered just seven vehicles — all Gravity SUVs.
Air + Gravity
Lucid currently offers its Air sedan and the Gravity SUV in Europe.
At the IAA Auto Show in Munich last September, Winterhoff and Hamilton told reporters — including EV — that the first European deliveries would take place in January 2026.
At the time, Winterhoff said a few units could potentially arrive before the end of 2025.
The delay coincided with a seat supplier issue that significantly affected Gravity deliveries globally.
The company recalled more than 4,000 Gravity SUVs in the United States — nearly all units produced until mid-February — after discovering that second-row seat belt anchors were not properly welded, a defect attributed to supplier Camaco.
Mid-Size in Europe
Lucid will begin production of its mid-size SUV Cosmos by year-end in Saudi Arabia.
While it remains unclear when the vehicle will be available in Europe, the EV maker has already pointed towards it as a catalyst in the continent.
“The vehicles that we have right now, with the Air and the Gravity, they’re still actually on the large side,” the company’s interim CEO stated earlier this year. “Therefore, there’s not a tremendous growth that we’re attributing to that region, which will change with the midsize.”
He attributed the “vast majority of the growth of Chinese OEMs in Europe” to low-cost vehicles, noting that “when you look at the brands that are selling more higher-priced vehicles, they’re actually not doing very well at all.”
CFO Taoufiq Boussaid also acknowledged that the company’s current models are oversized for European buyers.
“There’s not a tremendous growth that we’re attributing to that region, which will change with the midsize,” he said.
Market Expansion
Winterhoff confirmed during the fourth-quarter earnings call that the company was in advanced discussions with more than 10 additional dealer groups and importer candidates across Europe.
Lucid plans to expand its market presence — from four to as many as 12 European markets by the end of this year.
Belgium is planned this summer, followed by Denmark, France, Italy and Spain — relying exclusively on local dealer partnerships for the new markets.
The United Kingdom entry, however, has been pushed to 2027, when the company plans to launch with its upcoming Cosmos mid-size SUV instead of the Air or Gravity.
