Lucid Confirms Roll Out of Android Auto for Its Debut Model

Electric vehicle maker Lucid Motors confirmed on Monday that it has begun rolling out the Android Auto feature to all its Air vehicles.

As EV reported last week, the feature is included in version 2.7.0 of the operating system and allows drivers to access their Android smartphone’s maps, media, and messaging apps either via USB or wirelessly.

“Android Auto is one of the most requested features by Lucid owners, and we are delighted to announce that we have begun rolling out a software update to add this capability.” said Dr. Jean-Philippe Gauthier, Head of Software Engineering for Lucid

In June 2024, Lucid’s head of global communications, Nick Twork, said Android Auto would be added to the Air “this Fall.”

However, the rollout was pushed back and ultimately launched in June 2025, several months later than initially planned.

On Monday, the executive shared the news release on X by writing, “It’s finally here!”

Gauthier confirmed in April that Android Auto for the Gravity model is expected to arrive around September 2025. He said the company had submitted the Gravity platform for Google certification.

Google enforces a stringent certification process that typically takes at least six months to approve an automaker’s digital platform, though it can take longer for newer systems.

Lucid sold 28 vehicles across its four markets in Europe, seven additional units when compared to the 21 sedans it sold a year ago.

Last week, Lucid’s Managing Director in Europe Lawrence Hamilton said that the company expects to be present across the UK, France, Italy, and Spain “over the next 18 months.”

The Belgian and the Danish markets will be two of the upcoming new regions for the Newark-based brand.

The EV maker has been ramping up hiring globally as it continues developing its mid-size platform. The first of three models being launched under that platform is scheduled to be released late next year.

Cláudio Afonso founded CARBA in early 2021 and launched the news blog EV later that year. Following a 1.5-year hiatus, he relaunched EV in April 2024. In late 2024, he also started AV, a blog dedicated to the autonomous vehicle industry.
