Tech YouTuber Marques Brownlee, widely known as MKBHD, has ranked Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) mode as the top assisted-driving system currently available, after testing systems from Tesla, General Motors, Ford, Mercedes-Benz, and BMW.
Commenting on version 12.5 of Tesla’s FSD, Brownlee noted that it has “the major advantage of working on more roads”.
“It’s pretty clear that Tesla has the major advantage of working on more roads. You can pull out of a parking spot and enable it, and it will start by trying to navigate out of the parking lot,” he said in the video.
Brownlee tested Tesla’s FSD version 12.5 on a Hardware 3 Model 3 and version 13.2.1 on a Hardware 4-equipped Cybertruck.
“I think the one weakness with Tesla is it didn’t update speed limits as quickly as I wanted, but honestly, uh, the rest of it, A tier. I’m putting it at the top. It is not S tier because it’s not perfect. And it does have some room to grow and it’s a little bit skittish sometimes,” he stated.
A few weeks ago, the YouTuber sold his Tesla Cybertruck and said he “liked the Rivian better.”
Addressing a follow-up question on X about whether his preference stemmed from Rivian’s self-driving technology or safety features, Brownlee clarified: “We all know FSD [Full Self-Driving] is better than Rivian’s, but people on this site act like it’s the #1 buying factor for regular people when it’s not.”
Brownlee, who reviewed the Cybertruck in March after one month and 2,000 miles of ownership, published a video titled “Tesla Cybertruck Review: Already Iconic?” that has since accumulated nearly 4.5 million views.
Still commenting on the sale, Brownlee stated he was “one of the earliest” to review the model and noted that while he called it “iconic,” he faced criticism for “not being harsh enough on it.”
