Tesla Announces 550 km Range and 2027 Date for European Semi Model

Tesla has published European specifications for the Semi on its national websites ahead of the truck’s commercial launch at IAA Transportation in Hannover next week.

The company listed a single Standard Range tractor with 550 km of range at a 40-tonne gross combination weight and deliveries “from 2027,” the first date the company has attached to European sales.

The newly launched website pages give the truck an energy consumption of 1.0 kWh per kilometre, three motors on the rear axles producing up to 800 kW.

It listed a kerb weight of under 9,100 kg, an electric power take-off of up to 25 kW and Megacharger charging at up to 800 kW, recovering up to 60% of range in 30 minutes.

There is no price, no order button and no Long Range variant.Fleet operators are offered a contact form that asks for the size of their N3 truck fleet.

Tesla said on August 20 that it would unveil “specs and launch details for Semi in Europe” at IAA Transportation, which runs from September 15 to 20 with a press day on September 14.

The website has now answered two of the questions the show was expected to settle, the range and the delivery year, and left the rest, price, variants, charging sites and service, for Hannover.

What the Small Print Says

The German page states the conditions behind the 550 km figure: 40 tonnes gross combination weight, 80 km/h, 20°C, flat road, a tandem-axle aerodynamic kit and a CARB-compliant dry-freight trailer, with a note that tyre choice, roof fairing and trailer configuration have a very large effect on consumption.

At 1.0 kWh/km the figure implies about 550 kWh of usable energy, which matches the 548 kWh pack of the Standard Range truck Tesla sells in the United States rather than a new European battery.

The US Standard Range is rated at 325 miles, or 523 km, at 82,000 lb, about 37.2 tonnes, on a consumption of 1.7 kWh per mile, about 1.06 kWh/km, and charges at up to 1.2 MW.

The European page quotes a longer range at a heavier combination weight on a lower consumption figure, and a lower peak charging power on the same MCS 3.2 connector.

Depot charging is listed as a 120 kW Basecharger recovering 60% of range in four hours, against the 125 kW unit Tesla sells in the United States.

The cabin section promises a central driving position, standing room, a heated and ventilated seat and acoustic glass, and a heading on overnight comfort that describes software updates rather than a sleeper berth. Tesla has said since IAA 2024 that space is reserved behind the cab for a sleeper. None is specified.

Competitors

Mercedes-Benz’s eActros 600, in production since late 2024, carries a 621 kWh battery for a claimed 500 km at 40 tonnes, which works out to about 1.24 kWh/km on the same crude division of pack by range.

Tesla’s page claims a longer range on a smaller battery and a lighter tractor, which, if it holds on European motorways in winter, is the product argument.

At 9,100 kg the tractor leaves about 24 tonnes of payload at 40 tonnes with a typical 13.6-metre dry van, before any allowance for the two-tonne zero-emission weight bonus that EU rules permit and member states apply unevenly.

Tesla’s page sells the truck at 40 tonnes and does not mention 42.

Morgan Stanley

Hours before Tesla’s announcement, Morgan Stanley analyst Andrew Percoco reiterated an Equalweight rating and $400 price target on Tesla, according to a note first obtained by Price Target.

Percoco outlined how Tesla could generate between $12,000 and $18,000 per month from each autonomous Semi truck through software licensing alone.

The Programme

The first Semi came off Tesla’s high-volume line on April 29, at a 1.7-million-square-foot plant designed for 50,000 trucks a year, with a formal inauguration set for September 24, four days after IAA closes.

Tesla’s second-quarter shareholder deck moved the target for high-volume production to 2027. Einride ordered 500 trucks in August, about 75 of them for this year, and US list prices are about $260,000 for the Standard Range and $290,000 for the Long Range.

No European price, order or customer has been announced, and Tesla has said nothing about building the truck at Grünheide.

Dan Priestley, who runs the Semi programme, told IAA 2024 that Tesla had developed a shorter prototype for European dimensions with about 480 km of range and was targeting about 1 kWh/km.

Two years later the website carries the consumption figure he set and 70 km more range.
