Rivian Teams Up With Samsara to Help Fleet Managers Monitor EV Data

EV maker Rivian said on Tuesday it has partnered with fleet management platform Samsara, making it easier for Samsara customers operating their commercial electric vans to access key vehicle data.

The partnership will enable U.S. customers to monitor key vehicle data—such as GPS location, speed, mileage, battery state of charge, and seatbelt usage—directly within the Samsara platform.

This integration helps fleet managers save time and improve efficiency by eliminating the need to toggle between multiple systems.

According to Rivian, the data set “is particularly valuable for optimizing operations in sectors such as last-mile delivery and rentals, where efficiency and sustainability are key factors for measuring profitability.”

Commercial Vans

Rivian opened orders of its full electric commercial vans to other customers last February, with prices starting at $79,000.

A month ago, the brand announced the delivery of the first fleet to the meal kit provider HelloFresh, its “first major fleet customer” — after Amazon, which backs the company’s project since 2019.

Amazon partnered with Rivian in 2019, as part of its ‘The Climate Pledge’ initiative. The automaker agreed to roll out 100,000 electric delivery vans by 2030, with testing of preproduction vehicles beginning in 2021.

As of the latest update in early February, Amazon counted with over 20,000 Rivian vans in its fleet.

In-House Software

Rivian is developing an autonomy platform in-house, equipped with 11 cameras and five radars, which currently supports hands-free driving on major highways.

Last week, CEO RJ Scaringe stated that the company plans to expand coverage to additional highways and select cities later this year, eventually advancing to a “hands-off, eyes-off” capability.

The software was made available for trial in the Rivian app in early 2025, and has since been extended “until late 2025.”
