Select Rivian R2 reservation holders can now order the Forest Green exterior and Coastal Cloud Signature interior through an early access program the company began offering on Tuesday — ahead of their wider public release.
Rivian sent emails to eligible buyers describing the rollout as “early access to R2 with Forest Green paint and Coastal Cloud Signature,” calling the options “available now as a paid upgrade.”
Fine print in the email clarified that both are “available to order exclusively by select early R2 reservation holders for a limited time before becoming available to other reservation holders.”
The Irvine-based EV maker did not specify how the initial group was selected or how long the exclusivity window would last.
However, the company said earlier this month that the two colors are expected to be available “later in August” in the configurator — reaffirming the timeline the company’s website had displayed since the configurator launched in mid-May.
Both options had been held back from the R2 Launch Edition palette when Rivian detailed the R2 Performance with Launch Package in late April.
Rivian‘s public R2 configurator continued to display both options as “Coming August” as of Wednesday, confirming the broader rollout has not yet begun.
User Reports
Rivian Forums user ‘Jeremy3292’, based in South Carolina, was among the first to report a completed order for an R2 with a Forest Green exterior on Tuesday.
“Been refreshing every day for the whole month. My order IS IN. No announcement from Rivian yet,” he wrote, adding that the configurator quoted an eight-to-twelve-week delivery window.
‘Jeremy3292’ later updated his post with a screenshot of the early access email and noted that his original order invite arrived on June 11, the second day Rivian began sending purchase invitations.
Staggered Rollout
Access is not reaching all reservation holders simultaneously, and other forum posts suggest availability may be staggered even between the two options.
Several reservation holders reported no change at all.
California-based user ‘iamnid’ replied that their account still showed “on the list,” with ‘rbran’ in North Carolina confirming the same status.
Others reported being able to select one color option but not the other.
Color Options
Glaciar white costs $1,000. Forest Green is listed at $1,500 on the R2 configurator, placing it in the same pricing tier as Half Moon Grey in exterior color options.
Forest Green is a carryover shade from the R1 lineup.
On the R2, Forest Green becomes the most affordable of the darker exterior options — Midnight, the only other deep-toned color currently in production, carries a $2,000 surcharge.
Esker Silver remains the only no-cost exterior, consistent with the paid-color convention Rivian applies across its vehicle lineup.
When it comes to interior color options, Coastal Cloud Signature adds $1,000 to the build price, while Black Crater Signature remains included at no additional charge.
Coastal Cloud Signature is the R2’s second interior, joining Black Crater Signature as the sole choice available since customer deliveries began in June.
Rivian described Coastal Cloud in April as a lighter palette with cool coastal sky tones, paired with upcycled Birch wood and soft textile accents.
Adding Coastal Cloud doubles the number of interior-exterior combinations available to R2 buyers for the first time since the configurator opened.
Borealis Remains on Track
Rivian has scheduled Borealis, the deep purple shade introduced at Miami Art Week in December 2025, for September.
Borealis is priced at $2,000 on the configurator, matching Catalina Cove, Launch Green and Midnight.
September represents a significant acceleration from previous expectations — Rivian initially restricted the color to the broader Performance trim and did not expect to offer Borealis until 2027 when Launch Edition details were published in April.
With Forest Green and Borealis accounted for, all eight announced R2 exterior colors now have confirmed pricing and availability windows.
Production Ramp Continues
Expanded configurator options arrive as Rivian continues to scale R2 output at its Normal, Illinois, plant.
Community-tracked VIN assignments have surpassed 7,200 units, with the pace running at roughly 310 serials per day during the fastest stretches.
As of Wednesday, the highest VIN assignment reported was a Launch Green R2 at the 7400s, according to user ‘NormalLife’ on Reddit Forums, who wrote that there was “no delivery date yet, just the standard ‘your vehicle is in transit’.”
Rivian has guided to 20,000 to 25,000 R2 deliveries this year, with the bulk expected in the second half.
R2 Performance with Launch Package remains the only trim available to order, priced from $57,990.
Rivian has said the Premium trim at $53,990 is expected to begin deliveries later this year, with the Standard Long Range at $48,490 following in early 2027.
