The Swedish model Polestar 2 was the best-selling EV model in Australia during June with 201 units and the third one in the first half of the year, only behind Tesla Model 3 and Hyundai Kona. A solid result considering the Swedish EV maker only launched its Polestar 2 model in March.

In 2021, Australia recorded 20,665 EV sales (up from 6,900 in 2020) representing a EV market share of 1.95%. Of those, 12,094 were Tesla Model 3 vehicles accounting for 58.5% of the electric vehicles sold in the country.

Although in 2022 Tesla rivals are no longer MG ZS or the PHEV Mitsubishi Outlander but Hyundai Kona and Polestar 2. Hyundai’s electric model ranked second with 570 units sold from January to June 2022 followed by Polestar 2 with 562 units delivered.

Despite having delivered only 236 units in the second quarter — due to lockdowns in Shanghai, where Tesla has its giga factory — the automaker is, by far, leading the sales figures. Tesla is followed by Hyundai with 1,276 units of its three available EV models: Kona with 570 units, Ioniq EV with 385, and 321 units of the Ioniq 5 model.

On Monday, the electric vehicle maker inaugurated its first showroom in Spain amid the global expansion to a total of 30 markets by the end of 2023. The space — as the showrooms are known — is located at Paseo de Gracia, 84 in Barcelona and the inauguration counted with the presence of Stephane Le Guevel, the Managing Director of Polestar Iberia.

In late May, Polestar opened its first showroom in Dubai located at Mall of Emirates, an iconic shopping center with a total of 560 luxurious boutiques. During the last weeks, the EV maker has been expanding at a high pace confirming the entrance to Portugal, Spain, Dubai, and upcoming Italy.

Recently, Polestar revealed the prototype of its Polestar 5 GT model at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed, held from 23 to 26 June. The 4-door GT was one of the most awaited high-performance models of the 2022 edition as the company sets the ambition to deliver ten times more vehicles in 2025 than in 2021, 290,000 versus the 29,000 units delivered last year.

The Polestar 5 will be launched in 2024 following the Polestar 3 and Polestar 4 SUVs featuring a dual-motor powertrain with 884hp. For this model, Polestar worked on a new mechanical platform to “design and develop a unique bonded aluminum chassis”.
