Onvo L60 Sales Fall 25% Year on Year Despite Revamped Version with LiDAR

Onvo‘s L60 SUV remained the brand’s best-selling model in September, even as its sales in China fell 8.2% from August to 3,178 units, according to China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) data.

Including three exports, the L60 accounted for 3,181 of Onvo’s 8,763 deliveries, or 36.3%, ahead of the five-seat L80 at 2,915 and the three-row L90 at 2,667 units.

Nio does not disclose deliveries by model for Onvo or its other brands, so the CPCA data are the only monthly figures showing which Onvo models are gaining or losing ground.

The CPCA figures for the three models add up exactly to the deliveries Onvo reported for the month.

L60 sales in China were down 25.2% from a year earlier. It was the model’s second straight monthly decline, after sales reached their 2026 high in July following the third-generation L60’s launch in June.

September’s figure was the lowest since May, when 2,023 L60s were sold in the last full month before the new version’s launch.

The three exports were the L60’s first since May. The CPCA figures count retail sales in China and report exports separately.

The Third Quarter

L60 retail sales totaled 11,589 units in the third quarter, up 22.0% from 9,501 in the second quarter but 27.9% below the 16,084 sold a year earlier.

July, at 4,949 units, was the model’s strongest month of 2026, before sales fell to 3,462 in August and 3,178 in September.

Onvo said it delivered its 110,000th L60 on August 28.

The model’s sales totaled 28,244 in the first nine months of 2026, down 41.1% from 47,946 a year earlier, a comparison that uses Onvo’s own delivery figure for January 2025, when the L60 was the brand’s only model.

The weakest months came at the start of the year, with 1,978 units in January and 1,664 in February, the lowest full month since deliveries began.

The L60 accounted for 41.8% of Onvo’s 27,728 deliveries in the quarter, ahead of the L80 at 9,286 and the L90 at 6,850.

The L80 and the L90

The L60 has been Onvo’s best-selling model for four straight months, and in every month of 2026 except May, when the L80 went on sale.

Onvo concentrated its launches in the second quarter, with the refreshed L90 in April, the L80 in May and the third-generation L60 in June.

The L80, a five-seat SUV that shares most of its components with the L90, has fallen every month since its May 15 launch, from 5,949 units in its first weeks to 2,915 in September.

Its September total was 7.1% below August and 51.0% below May, after registrations fell 31% in its second month.

The L80 starts at 242,800 yuan ($36,200), or 156,800 yuan ($23,400) under BaaS, and Onvo added a paint and wheels package on September 11 at a limited-time price of 10,080 yuan ($1,500), down from 16,800 yuan ($2,500).

The model has not been exported, although Armenia is set to become its first market outside China.

The L90 rose 20.7% from August to 2,667 units, its second straight monthly gain, but was 75.7% below a year earlier.

The three-row SUV went on sale in July 2025 and sold more than 10,000 units a month from August to October that year, peaking at 11,722, before falling to 5,971 in November as China phased out trade-in subsidies.

The refreshed L90 starts at 265,800 yuan ($39,700), with LiDAR and the Shenji chip on higher trims, and Onvo said the model passed 60,000 deliveries in its first year on sale.

Together, the L80 and L90 delivered 5,582 vehicles in September, 49.2% fewer than the 10,997 L90s Onvo delivered a year earlier, before the L80’s launch.

The December 2024 Peak

Onvo delivered 10,528 L60s in December 2024, the model’s third full month on sale and its best to date.

Nio had targeted 10,000 units that month and monthly deliveries of 20,000 in 2025. Sales have not exceeded 6,400 units in any month since, and September’s total was 69.8% below the December 2024 peak.

The L60 sold about 64,400 units in 2025.

Shen Fei, a former head of Nio Power who is now Onvo’s President, replaced Alan Ai as head of Onvo after it missed its delivery targets in early 2025.

Combining Onvo’s delivery figures through January 2025 with CPCA data since then, the L60 has sold about 113,400 units since deliveries began on September 28, 2024.

Three Generations

Nio unveiled the L60 in May 2024 at a pre-sale price of 219,900 yuan ($32,800), 30,000 yuan ($4,500) below the starting price of the Model Y from Tesla at the time.

At its launch on September 19, 2024, the SUV was priced at 206,900 yuan ($30,900) with a 60-kilowatt-hour battery and 235,900 yuan ($35,200) with an 85-kWh pack.

Under Nio’s Battery as a Service (BaaS) plan, buyers could rent the battery and pay from 149,900 yuan ($22,400) for the vehicle.

The original L60 had no LiDAR, relying on cameras and a 4D imaging radar run by an Orin-X chip from Nvidia, while Nio fits LiDAR as standard across its namesake brand’s models.

Onvo’s chief at the time called the L60 the top alternative to the Model Y in China, and the company began deliveries in 60 cities on September 28, 2024.

A refreshed L60 went on order on September 19, 2025 at unchanged prices, adding new wheels and colors, a rear tray table and lower energy consumption of 11.9 kWh per 100 kilometers for the rear-wheel-drive version.

Onvo began delivering it in late October, saying the update brought more than 30 product upgrades, and added a 666-unit Black Knight edition in December.

In March 2026, a government filing showed Onvo would add LiDAR to the L60, after Shen had said in late January that the model would stay with a vision-only system.

Shen pointed to a higher price when pre-sales of the third-generation L60 opened on May 29, and Head of Marketing and Communications Ma Lei later wrote on Weibo that it would cost nearly 20,000 yuan more ($3,000).

Onvo instead launched it on June 11 at 192,800 yuan ($28,800) to 222,800 yuan ($33,300), with the entry price 14,100 yuan ($2,100) below the outgoing model.

BaaS prices start at 135,800 yuan ($20,300).

The entry Pro version keeps a camera-based driver-assistance system running on the Orin-X chip, while the Max+ and Ultra+ add a roof-mounted LiDAR and Nio’s in-house Shenji NX9031 chip.

The LiDAR-equipped Max+ costs 10,000 yuan ($1,500) more than the Pro, and with the L60’s update, all three Onvo models now offer LiDAR on their higher trims.

Onvo said the new version carried 106 upgrades and started deliveries immediately.

Founder and CEO William Li told Economic Observer after the launch that the L60 still had a gross margin, “but it’s pretty dire,” citing rising supply-chain costs.

Onvo rolled out a major software update to more than 170,000 vehicles in July, including the new L60.

Incentives

Onvo has relied on financing offers and add-on packages to support the L60 since its first months on sale.

Customers who ordered at launch by October 8, 2024, received benefits Onvo valued at 41,538 yuan ($6,200), including five years of its navigation-assisted driving feature.

In February 2025, the company offered five years of 0% financing with a 30% down payment, and in April it added a 6,000-yuan charging package ($900) and five years of driver assistance.

When deliveries of the refreshed model began in October 2025, Onvo advertised offers worth up to 49,000 yuan ($7,300).

Li said in November that China’s phase-out of trade-in subsidies since October had hit demand, adding that “our Onvo L60 and L90 are majorly affected by this cancellation.”

After China halved its purchase-tax exemption for electric vehicles at the start of 2026, Onvo covered the purchase tax for BaaS buyers in March, worth up to 8,156 yuan ($1,200) on the L60, and offered seven-year financing at an annualized rate of 0.49%.

For the third-generation model, Onvo offered benefits valued at up to 53,000 yuan ($7,900) on orders placed by June 30, including financing from zero down payment with three years free of interest, and five years of driver assistance.

First owners of 2024 and 2025 L60s were offered vouchers of 10,000 yuan ($1,500), or 12,000 yuan ($1,800) for founding-edition buyers, toward a new Onvo model.

Onvo said this month that the L60 ranked first among midsize SUVs for one-year residual value, at 74.4%, in an August industry report.

Exports and Markets Abroad

Onvo has exported 207 L60s since November 2025, according to the CPCA data, and 193 of them were shipped in November and December last year.

Monthly exports have not exceeded five units in 2026. Across its lineup, Onvo exported nine vehicles in September, three L60s and six L90s, and 251 since November 2025, according to the CPCA data.

Onvo has yet to reach Europe, where Nio said last month that the launch is “currently expected for 2028-2029,” later than the 2027 date Li gave in November 2025.

Onvo sells vehicles in three markets outside China, Uzbekistan, Armenia and Costa Rica, all through local distributors, and the L60 is offered in each.

The CPCA data do not show where the exported L60s went.

The L60 was spotted in Uzbekistan in November 2025, and distributor Abu Sahiy Motors opened Onvo’s first authorized showroom in Tashkent at the end of January, selling the L60 and the L90.

In Armenia, dealer N-Motors opened its Yerevan showroom in early March and lists the L60 from 12.8 million drams ($35,300) for the Pro and 13.6 million drams ($37,500) for the Max+, according to its website.

Those prices include the 60-kWh battery, with the 85-kWh pack costing 1.7 million drams ($4,700) more.

N-Motors lists the model as the L60 1.6 and does not say which generation it is.

Nio opened its first store in the Americas in Costa Rica in March with distributor Horizontes Cielo Azul, offering the L60 from the start and taking pre-orders for the L90.

Onvo’s Costa Rican website lists the L60 and L90 without prices and asks buyers to book a test drive or get in touch.

Onvo Deliveries

Onvo’s September deliveries fell 42.5% from a year earlier and 0.5% from August, its second straight year-on-year decline and its fourth straight monthly fall.

Third-quarter deliveries fell 26.4% to 27,728, while the brand’s nine-month total of 70,191 was up 1.0%.

The brand’s 8,763 deliveries were 49.5% below its October 2025 record of 17,342.

The L60’s share of Onvo’s deliveries has risen from 27.9% in September 2025, when the L90 outsold it by more than two to one.

Li said on September 1 that Onvo would introduce a “major strategic new product” next year, without naming it or its type, while a supplier document has shown an Onvo L50 that Nio has not confirmed.

Onvo delivered its 200,000th vehicle, an L90, on October 8, about two years after the L60 reached its first customers.

Onvo’s monthly reports put its cumulative deliveries at 198,760 at the end of September, implying about 1,240 deliveries in October up to the milestone, a period that included China’s National Day holiday from October 1 to 7.

The brand delivered 107,808 vehicles in 2025, its first full year, and the L60 accounts for about 57% of its cumulative total.

“Behind the figure of 200,000 are 200,000 real acts of trust,” Onvo President Shen Fei said.
