Facelifted Onvo L60 Spotted in China, Launch Rumored for Sep 19

The Onvo L60, the debut model of Nio’s sub-brand, was spotted in China on Sunday being transported without camouflage as the launch of its second iteration approaches.

The brand’s chief Fei Shen confirmed in the final days of August that a facelift was in development and would be announced “very soon.”

According to Chinese outlet ‘IT之家’, the updated L60 will add dual wireless charging pads for the front row — compared with the current model’s single charger on the driver’s side — along with rear seat ventilation.

The series will also offer a new gold paint option.

Blogger @布莱克, who shared the images, said the car “will switch to new wheels, with the overall design unchanged,” describing the update as an annual model refresh.

The efficiency of the five-seat SUV has reportedly lowered in the rear-wheel drive version to 11.9kWh/100km while the all-wheel drive variant has decreased to 12.4kWh/100km.

Blogger @42号车库 added that “the price is very likely to remain unchanged, which can be considered as more features without a price increase.

The launch is reportedly planned for September 19. One day later, the company will host its annual event in Hangzhou, where the third-generation ES8 will be officially launched.

Last week, Shen used Weibo to preview the first upgrades customers can expect in the new iteration.

“The modifications are very minor, adding ventilated seats in the second row, more optional configurations, and software upgrades,” he wrote in response to a user.

While he did not address pricing, analysts expect Onvo to follow the playbook of Nio’s core brand, which kept prices unchanged during earlier facelifts this year.

The L60 was unveiled in May 2024 and went on sale the following September, with deliveries beginning later that month.

Built on Nio’s 900V high-voltage platform, the mid-size SUV features a drag coefficient of 0.229 — which the company says is the lowest of any production SUV — and CLTC efficiency of 92.3%.

The model is offered in two versions: a standard 60 kWh edition with 555 km of range priced from 206,900 yuan ($29,000) and a long-range 85 kWh edition with 730 km of range from 235,900 yuan ($33,100).

Executives said orders of the brand’s first model in August rose 30% month-on-month to a record high, helped by increased showroom traffic from the pre-launch of the brand’s second model, the three-row L90 SUV in early July.

After a strong launch — Deutsche Bank estimated Onvo secured more than 30,000 firm orders by September 2024 — the L60 struggled with cancellations, causing the brand to miss delivery targets of 16,000 units in January and 20,000 in March.

That led to the replacement of Onvo’s first chief, Alan Ai, with Fei Shen in April.

Onvo has also delayed its third model, the L80 SUV, to 2026. The L80 is the brand’s five-seat version of the L90 model, featuring the same exterior design.

“Onvo needs to concentrate on doing a small number of important things well. Recently, we have made the Onvo L90 the short-term top priority for the entire Onvo brand,” Nio co-founder and president Lihong Qin said.

The L90, launched on July 31, surpassed 10,000 cumulative deliveries in less than a month strongly contributing to Onvo’s new monthly record.
