Firefly Extends Price Cuts Into Late Summer Across Four European Markets

Firefly, the entry-level brand of Nio Inc., is holding price cuts in four of its seven European markets through late summer, according to EV‘s review of the brand’s official market sites on Tuesday.

Campaign deadlines staggered from August 31 in Portugal to September 30 in Norway, an open-ended offer in Belgium, and previously unreported reductions live in Greece.

The pattern is consistent with reductions of 11% to 17% on the Select trim, limited to existing inventory, in the markets where the compact hatchback has sold in single digits for most of 2026.

The Netherlands — Firefly‘s first European market alongside Norway — carries no promotion at all.

Both markets handed over the first Firefly vehicles on the Old Continent in mid-August 2025.

Demand has been weaker than expected.

BYD‘s Dolphin Surf, Leapmotor‘s Stellantis-distributed B05, Renault‘s 5 E-Tech, Kia‘s EV3 and the first European models from state-owned GAC‘s Aion brand now compete for the same buyers.

Some of the rivals are priced below Firefly‘s discounted levels, with the European-made vehicles not facing the tariff burden imposed since October 2024.

Portugal

The official Portuguese site lists the Select at €25,850 including VAT, a €5,050 reduction from the €30,900 list price, or 16.3%, with the campaign page stating validity until the end of August.

The offer is limited to stock at participating dealers, with additional administrative and transport fees.

The distributor JAP Group first set the campaign on June 21 with a €21,999-before-VAT price.

Norway

The Norwegian site’s banner is explicit: “kampanjetilbud… fra kr 231.900,- gjelder frem til 30.09.26” — the summer campaign price, about $23,700 and a 17.1% cut of 48,000 kroner from the original 279,900-kroner launch price, holds through the end of September.

It is the second reduction in the brand’s only tariff-free European market, where a batch of 105 vehicles was planned to arrive in July — landing directly at the discounted price.

As of Tuesday, the brand has not confirmed the batch’s arrival.

Belgium

The Belgian site of distributor Hedin Automotive runs a “stockactie” offering €5,000 off a Select from inventory, cutting the price from €29,990 to €24,990 including VAT — 16.7% — valid “as long as stock lasts,” with no calendar deadline at all. The offer, which has not been previously reported, makes Belgium the cheapest Firefly market in the euro zone: €4,910 below the Dutch price for the same car one border away.

Greece

The Greek configurator, run by distributor Motodynamics, now shows the Select from €28,300 and the Comfort from €29,600.

The new prices mark a decline from the €31,900 and €33,900 launch prices of December, reductions of 11.3% and 12.7% that appeared without any announced campaign or stated end date.

The Holdouts

The Netherlands holds the linethe Dutch configurator lists the First Edition at €29,900 and the Comfort at €32,500, unchanged from launch — no promotion, eight months after the market’s only discount, the €5,000 Black Friday cut that expired in December.

Austria’s list price remains €30,900 with no campaign found, and Denmark, launched in December at 209,900 to 229,900 kroner, shows none either.

Deliveries in Austria began in the final days of 2025.

The hatchback is also for sale in Luxembourg.

Hedin’s Luxembourg site offers the Firefly from €28,990 — a market where orders had been planned for 2026 but whose opening was never announced.

The figure is not a discount: it is almost exactly the Belgian €29,990 restated at Luxembourg’s 17% VAT instead of Belgium’s 21%, which puts the grand duchy’s standard price €1,000 under Belgium’s.

Belgium’s stock campaign undercuts both.

The Demand Behind the Deadlines

The geography of the cuts maps the geography of the problem.

Firefly registered five vehicles in the Netherlands in June and has run single-digit months there all year. In July, it recorded a singe unit.

Norway, its strongest legacy market, produced 27 June registrations and six in July. Portugal’s June total was 11.

The European weakness inverts the brand’s global picture.

Firefly delivered 5,771 vehicles in July, per Saturday’s group delivery release — up 143.9% from a weak year-earlier month, though 16.9% below June’s 6,946, which stands as the brand’s strongest month of 2026.

Deliveries through seven months total 34,943, more than triple the year-earlier figure, making Firefly the fastest-growing of Nio’s three brands — with the overwhelming majority sold in China and Europe’s contribution measured in dozens.

Brand chief Daniel Jin has acknowledged that early-2026 overseas sales fell short of expectations while maintaining expansion targets of 20 to 30 countries.

Cláudio Afonso founded CARBA in early 2021 and launched the news blog EV later that year.
