Lucid showed brief images of its upcoming crossover SUV Cosmos in the closing seconds of a video posted on X on Thursday, as shares of the EV maker were trading approximately 9% lower at $3.06.
The 96-second clip, a brand film about the experience of driving, ends with less than 10 seconds of footage of a vehicle filmed at dusk against a mountain silhouette, starting about 1 minute and 22 seconds in, before a Lucid logo appears.
The footage shows a close-up of a curved, segmented front lamp, followed by a rear view in which the “LUCID” lettering is lit in red between two slim taillights. The rear shot also shows a steeply sloping rear window and a small fin on the roof, with the rest of the vehicle kept in shadow.
The post accompanying the video does not name a model.

“We’ve always looked at movement differently,” Lucid wrote. “From the calm of a well-crafted cabin to the ease of a journey and the thrill of acceleration, it’s about elevating the experience of movement, mile after mile.”
“And as we build new vehicles and push technology further, we can’t wait to share this feeling with even more people and bring them along for the ride,” the company said.
The video carries no text identifying the vehicle, a launch date or a price.
The Cosmos Is Next
Lucid’s next new model is the Cosmos, a midsize SUV and the first vehicle on its midsize platform, an 800-volt architecture the company calls Atlas.
The Cosmos is meant to take Lucid into a lower price segment than the Air sedan and Gravity SUV.
In its second-quarter results on August 4, Lucid said its midsize prototypes were undergoing validation, durability testing and crash certification, as well as “cold-weather testing in New Zealand.” It listed the “advancement of our Robotaxi, AMP-2, and Midsize programs” among its priorities.
At its Investor Day in New York on March 12, Lucid displayed the Cosmos behind closed doors as a finished design mockup in red, alongside a body-in-white validation vehicle. Attendees’ phones were confiscated.
A Reveal Still Without a Date
Lucid had said since March that it would reveal the Cosmos in the summer of 2026, without naming a date.
It has not set a reveal date, and camouflaged prototypes have since been photographed on public roads.
A Cosmos prototype was photographed testing at Lucid’s former Nikola facility in Coolidge, Arizona, in mid-July.
Lucid uses Coolidge as the pilot facility for its midsize program. Images shared on Instagram on September 24 showed a prototype with a California plate, and a Reddit user posted photos of one on U.S. Highway 101 south of San Jose in October, about 35 miles southeast of Lucid’s headquarters in Newark, California.
Production has also moved later. On August 4, on his first results call since taking over as CEO on June 1, Silvio Napoli said the company’s AMP-2 plant in Saudi Arabia would be “ready to run midsize production in the second half of the year,” with the Cosmos as “the first vehicle produced at” the factory.
Lucid said in the same release that systems for “stamping, body, paint and final assembly” were being installed and commissioned at the Saudi plant ahead of production trials.
That moved the start of production about a year from the “late 2026” timing Lucid had maintained until then.
Napoli has said the Cosmos will travel “400 miles plus” on a charge, in an interview with CNN‘s Quest Means Business in August, the first range figure a Lucid executive had given for the model.
Lucid said afterward that “all numbers are preliminary.” Since its Investor Day, the company has cited a 69 kWh battery for the midsize platform.
Saudi Plant Preparations
Lucid, which is majority-owned by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, has been preparing staff for midsize production in the kingdom. It has sent Saudi plant engineers to Arizona for training and expanded its supply team in China ahead of the launch.
In October, the first cohort of graduates from Saudi Arabia’s National Automotive and Vehicle Academy completed training at the plant ahead of Cosmos production.
The midsize platform will also underpin a robotaxi for Uber. A second agreement with Uber, signed in April, covers at least 25,000 Lucid Midsize Plus robotaxis, with production of that model targeted for late 2028, according to Lucid’s second-quarter 10-Q.
Lucid has ruled out building the Cosmos at its factory in Casa Grande, Arizona, where it builds the Air and the Gravity. Lucid has not said when it will share more about its next model.
Results Due Monday
Thursday’s video comes four days before Lucid reports third-quarter results on November 9, with a conference call scheduled for 5:30 p.m. ET.
Lucid produced 2,954 vehicles and delivered 3,806 in the third quarter, the company said in October.
The teaser is Lucid’s second post on X this week about vehicles in development. On Wednesday, it said it had begun manufacturing pre-production robotaxi vehicles for its program with Nuro and Uber at its Arizona factory in October.
Lucid’s lineup currently consists of the Air sedan and the Gravity SUV. It began building production Gravity GT-S units in October.
