Polestar sold 2,173 vehicles in August across eleven out of its fifteen markets in Europe, a 18.5% decrease from the 2,667 units registered in July.
Geely Holding Group‘s premium brand, headquartered in Sweden, saw its sales jumping 70.3% in its major eleven markets compared to the same period a year ago.
In those markets, Polestar had registered 1,276 vehicles in August 2024.
Including Belgium, Luxembourg and Italy, which did not disclose Polestar August sales in official registration data yet, the July total represented 2,877 vehicles.
Registrations for France, where it recently entered, have also not been disclosed by the official data.

Polestar’s monthly registrations in Europe show sharp fluctuations largely due to the brand’s dependence on manufacturing and shipping cycles in China and the US.
The Polestar 2 has been produced at the Luqiao factory in Zhejiang, China, since 2020. Production of the Polestar 3 SUV is split between Chengdu, China, and Volvo’s plant in South Carolina, US.
The Polestar 4, currently built in Hangzhou Bay, China, is expected to start being produced in Busan, South Korea, later this year.
The new factory will serve the US market, according to the brand.
It remains unclear whether vehicles will also be shipped to Europe from there.
The brand, which is headquartered in Gothenburg, registered 428 vehicles in Sweden last month, posting a 18.9% growth from the same period a year ago.
According to data released by Mobility Sweden, registrations fell for the second consecutive month, down from 538 units in July, a drop of about 20%.
In Finland, the company listed 72 vehicles in August, an increase both sequentially (from 40 units in July) and year over year (from the 59 units registered a year ago).
Registrations in Norway declined to 154 units in August, compared to July, when it had sold 193 vehicles.
According to data published by the OFV, the numbers nearly doubled from 86 vehicles registered a year ago.
According to Mobility Denmark, the EV maker sold 129 units last month — a slight increase from July’s 112 vehicles, but a drop from the 164 vehicles registered in August 2024.
Polestar sold 729 vehicles in the UK last month, registration data by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders showed.
Last month’s sales nearly doubled year over year, as the company had listed 374 vehicles in Britain a year ago, despite the 11.1% sequential decline.
Reacting to the numbers, UK country chief Matt Galvin claimed in a new LinkedIn post this Thursday that “Polestar continues to top the table of the fastest growing premium car brands in the UK.”
The company registered 19 vehicles in Ireland last month, up by six units from a year ago. In July, sales had jumped to 53 units in the Irish market.
In the Netherlands, 249 Polestar vehicles were registered last month. It marks a jump from July’s 179 units and from the 154 units listed in the same period a year ago.
In August, Polestar sold 338 vehicles in Germany, a 79.8% rise from the 188 vehicles listed exactly a year before. In July, the brand had hit a new two-year high with 670 vehicles sold in July.
The brand recently appointed Jan Grindemann as the new chief for the German market, replacing Willem Baudewijns, who leads the Dutch market.
Last month, Polestar became the official mobility partner and one of the main sponsors of the German football club Borussia Dortmund for the next three seasons.
In the Portuguese market, 31 vehicles were sold in August — the same amount as last year, according to data from ACAP. Figures dropped by one unit from July.
Official registration data from the Spanish association ANFAC does not disclose registrations per brands.
According to the EU-EVs platform, the brand registered 24 vehicles in the country, six units below the 30 vehicles sold a month ago and 11 units down from August 2024.
Data from the platform suggests that Polestar sold 20 vehicles in Italy in July. However, August sales figures have not yet been released.
Although the company entered the Italian market in 2022, alongside Portugal and Spain, Italy’s automotive association ANFIA does not report the brand’s vehicle registrations.
In the Benelux region, which accounts for registrations in both Belgium and Luxembourg, Polestar sold 190 vehicles in July, up from 160 units a year before.
August data has not been published yet. In August 2024, the company had sold 228 units in the two markets.
According to yearly registration data in the two countries, Polestar entered the markets in 2020, when it sold 473 vehicles, followed by 1,003 in 2021 and a total 1,741 in 2022.
Polestar officially opened orders in France in early June, where it is partnering with Volvo’s retail network. The brand’s sales were not disclosed on official CCFA data for July nor August.
The brand plans to grow its European retail footprint to more than 180 locations by 2027.
On Wednesday, the EV maker reported its financial results for the first half of 2025, posting a gross loss of $703 million, compared with a $23 million loss in the prior year.
Polestar‘s shares dropped 17.3% on Wednesday to $1.10, and 5.5% more on Thursday to $1.04, nearing closer to Nasdaq’s $1.00 minimum requirement.
The company is launching its Polestar 5 model at next week’s IAA Auto Show in Munich, Germany.
