XPeng Reaches New Record in Germany with 359 EVs Sold in October

Chinese automaker XPeng has reached its best result in Germany since it entered the largest European automotive market in late March 2024.

The brand sold 359 vehicles in October, a sharp increase when compared to the 100 units registered a year ago.

Compared to the 241 units sold in September, sales jumped 49%.

With the exception of May and September, monthly figures have been consecutively rising since XPeng entered the country.

Registration figures fluctuate due to logistics scheduling, as most of the vehicles are built in Guangzhou, China.

The scenario is soon going to change, as XPeng has started local production in Europe through a partnership with Magna Steyr in Austria.

In a media Q&A session held on Tuesday in Guangzhou where EV participated, the company’s vice-chairman Brian Gu said the partnership is currently enough for the sales volume in Europe while hinting that further production will take place in Europe at a later stage.

In Germany, the Chinese brand sells both its G6 and G9 SUVs and the P7 sedan.

The company has refreshed both SUVs in China earlier this year, and in July opened orders for the new iterations across several European markets — including Germany.

Despite having been shown at the IAA Auto Show, the new P7 is scheduled to launch in Europe next year, alongside the domestic bestseller Mona M03, which began international exports last month.

The German website lets customers configure a vehicle of the previous iteration.

Upcoming Launches in Europe

Recent product launches in China, along with XPeng‘s participation in the IAA Auto Show in September, indicate that the company plans to introduce more models to the European market.

Meanwhile, the hybrid version of the X9 multi-purpose van has been spotted testing in several countries, including Germany, indicating that it may also arrive in Europe.

Last month, XPeng announced that it has started producing EVs in Austria, in a partnership with Magna Steyer.

However, it remains unclear whether the company is producing (or will produce) right-hand drive models, supplying the UK, where only the G6 SUV is sold.

XPeng sold 150 vehicles in the British market last month, and a total of 659 units since it entered the island in February.

Intelligent Driving Overseas

Asked about the rollout of autonomous driving capabilities in Europe, Brian Gu reiterated that one of the key focus is to bring intelligent driving capabilities to international markets.

The executive said that the company is looking for regions “where the framework is more friendly” for the rollout of highway capabilities, for example, aiming for its launch “sometime next year.”
