XPeng Claims P7+’s Top Trim Charges Nearly 3x Faster Than Tesla Model Y

XPeng said on Tuesday that its P7+ Flagship Edition, equipped with 5C fast-charging, can add nearly three times more driving range than Tesla’s Model Y in just 10 minutes.

In a post published on Weibo, the brand said that the P7+ “has undergone real-world testing, confirming its ability to charge for 10 minutes” across various charging stations.

The model can charge 445 km (about 277 miles) in 10 minutes — or 50 km every minute — “setting a new benchmark for ultra-fast charging efficiency.”

The Guangzhou-based company said that the model’s “energy replenishment efficiency far surpasses that of the refreshed 2025 Tesla Model Y.”

According to Tesla, the refreshed SUV can reach from 169 to 182 miles (271 to 293 km) with a 15 minute charge, for its AWD and RWD trims, respectively. In 10 minutes, the model could charge up to 193 km.

Based on the data showed by XPeng, a 10-minute charge in a public charging pile (with 480kW peak power) added a 105 km range to the SUV, while the Chinese brand’s sedan reached 299 km.

On XPeng‘s S5 Supercharger with 720kW peak power, its model reached 445 km, while the U.S. brand’s EV charged up to 175 km.

The company unveiled its its “5C ultra-fast charging AI battery” in early April, at a global event held in Hong Kong.

When paired with its S5 liquid-cooled charging station, “1km range can be added on a one-second charge, reaching 80% in just 12 minutes”, the company stated.

The brand equipped its recently launched refreshed versions of the G6, G9, and X9 models with 5C batteries. The “P7+ Ultra Long Range Max Flagship Edition” was unveiled in late April, at the Shanghai Auto Show.

According to founder and CEO He Xiaopeng, the new variant of the flagship sedan is “capable of powering a month’s commute with just 10 minutes of charging.”

The P7+, which XPeng called the “world’s first AI-defined vehicle,” was launched in November, with a starting price of 186,800 yuan ($25,600).

Last month, the brand announced it is revamping its debut P7 sedan, which will substitute the P7i in the lineup.

When questioned about the difference between the recent P7+ and the upcoming P7, XPeng stated that the P7+ “prioritizes family-friendly attributes” while the new P7 “emphasizes advanced intelligence, performance, and a more personalized design.”

The company delivered 33,525 vehicles in May, up 230% from a year earlier and the seventh month above the 30,000-unit threshold.

From January to May, the company sold 162,578 units — reaching 42.8% of the 380,000-unit guidance set earlier this year.
