In the latest report from the new energy vehicle (NEV) sector released this Tuesday, Li Auto, recognized for its fully electric model Li Mega and four hybrids, secured 7,160 units, surpassing Tesla’s 6,212 fully electric vehicles.

Meanwhile, China’s prominent BYD registered 50,882 electrified vehicles, marking an increase from the 45,216 units recorded in the first week of April. It’s worth noting that weekly comparisons can be misleading as China observed a three-day holiday in the first week of April.

In the second week of April, passenger car sales totaled 310,000 units, with traditional vehicles accounting for 164,000 units and new energy vehicles comprising 146,000 units. The penetration rate for new energy vehicles during this period was 47%.

Tesla, which recently announced that is introducing a limited-time offer of 0% interest loans as a fresh incentive strategy in China, registered six thousand units, a quarterly decline of 19.1 percent, and a year-over-year decline of 52 percent.

“About every 5 years, we need to reorganize and streamline the company for the next phase of growth.” These were the initial remarks made by Tesla‘s CEO following the announcement of the departure of two vice presidents and a workforce reduction of over 10 percent on Monday.

The world’s largest EV maker issued an email to all employees announcing a >10% reduction in its global staff representing more than 14,000 employees.

*The first week was marked by the Qingming Festival in the country, a three-day holiday occurring every early April.

Xpeng rebounded from the previous week, registering 1,500 units (up from 1,200), yet challenges persist as April deliveries are anticipated to remain below 7,000 vehicles.
