Tesla Tops Most American-Made Cars List for Fourth Consecutive Year

Tesla‘s fully electric vehicles placed on the top four positions of the updated America-Made Index, with the Model 3 sedan taking the first place.

The study is conducted by Cars.com every year and, in 2025, it analyzed 400 vehicle models produced in the United States.

It rates the models based on factors such as the location of the final assembly, the percentage of parts made in North America, the countries of origin for engines and transmissions used and the manufacturing workforce in U.S. plants.

From the 400 vehicles considered, 133 are totally manufactured in the United States, 248 are imported and 19 “were split between domestic and imported assembly lines.”

Tesla‘s Model 3 was last revamped in late 2023.

This year, the model ranked first, outperforming the brand’s Model Y — refreshed earlier this year.

It was followed by the flagship Model S and the Model X SUV. Last week, Tesla unveiled the highly anticipated new iterations of the two models.

Tesla’s models are produced in its Fremont plant, in California. The Model Y is also assembled in the Austin factory, in Texas, where the company is headquartered.

For the first time, fully electric vehicles made up the majority of the top 10 models this year.

In the sixth and tenth position, two other battery electric vehicles (BEV) were considered: the Kia EV6 and the Volkswagen ID.4, respectively. The vehicles are assembled in Georgia and Tennessee.

The Kia EV6 is a newcomer to the top, featuring the highest U.S./Canadian parts content percentage of any vehicle sold in America at 80%, according to the study.

Other electric models in the study are the best-selling Ford F-150 Lightning, manufactured in Michigan, which placed 22nd, and Hyundai’s Ioniq, which has mixed assembly, both in Busan (South Korea) and Georgia (U.S.), which was ranked 30th.

Besides Tesla‘s sedans, off-road vehicles, pick-up trucks and SUVs led the top 10.

It included the Stellantis-backed Jeep Gladiator, an off-road produced in the state of Ohio, and Japanese brand Honda‘s models Ridgeline, Odyssey and Passport, produced in Alabama.

Honda’s models have consistently placed in the top 10 most American-made cars since 2019.

Tesla sold 46,150 vehicles in its domestic market last month, according to Motor Intelligence. Year to date, the brand registered an average of 45,800 monthly units in the United States — 6,000 less than a year ago.

On Monday, Business Insider reported that Tesla plans to halt production of its Cybertruck and Model Y for a week at its Austin factory at the end of June to perform maintenance on production lines.

The planned pause comes as Tesla prepares to launch its long-anticipated Robotaxi service in Austin later this month. CEO Elon Musk said last week that the launch is set for June 22.
