Tesla to Pause Cybertruck, Model Y Production Lines for Maintenance: Report

Tesla plans to halt production of its Cybertruck and Model Y for a week at its Austin, Texas factory at the end of June to perform maintenance on production lines, Business Insider reported on Tuesday, citing people familiar with the matter.

The planned pause, scheduled for the week of June 30 through the July 4 holiday, marks at least the third shutdown at the facility in the past year, the report said.

The carmaker informed workers that during the pause, employees could use paid time off or participate in voluntary training and cleaning shifts, according to the report.

The company told staff the improvements would help ramp up output but did not specify which lines could see increased production, Business Insider said.

In late May, a shutdown of the same lines included training sessions focused on improving workplace culture, according to the report.

Production of the Cybertruck was also paused for three days in December due to battery supply issues and was scaled back again in April.

The planned pause comes as Tesla prepares to launch its long-anticipated Robotaxi service in Austin later this month.

CEO Elon Musk has said the service will “tentatively” begin on June 22 with a small fleet of Model Ys before scaling up operations.

Over the last few days, several driverless Model Ys were seen testing in Austin. Musk aims to quickly expand the service to other states later this year before reaching millions of robotaxis on the road in the next few years.

Tesla launched last week updated versions of its Model S and Model X vehicles in the United States, improving range and driving comfort with a quieter cabin and better suspension.

The new Model X starts at $89,990 for the All-Wheel-Drive, while the Plaid version starts at $104,990.

The refreshed Model S Long Range now offers up to 410 miles (660 km) on a single charge – the longest range of any Tesla vehicle to date.
