Tesla is preparing to open its second showroom in India at the main international airport in the country’s capital, New Delhi.
After opening its first Indian store in Mumbai earlier this month, the Elon Musk-led company is preparing to launch a second location in August ahead of initial deliveries scheduled to begin later this quarter.
“Teslaās second experience centre in India will open soon in Aerocity at IGI Airport,” the X user Ishanagarwal24 wrote on Tuesday.
The company officially launched in India earlier this month, with the opening of its showroom in the Bandra Kurla Complex business centre in Mumbai.
In Mumbai, the Model Y carries an āon-roadā price of ā¹61,07,190, while in Gurugram, Haryana, the cost rises to ā¹66,76,831 ($77,800). Teslaās Full Self-Driving (FSD) package is also listed on the site, priced at ā¹6,00,000 ($7,000), although the company notes limitations related to Indiaās road conditions and traffic unpredictability.
India levies a 110% import duty on vehicles priced above $40,000, a barrier that previously delayed Teslaās market entry.
The first vehicles to arrive are expected to be Model Y units exported from Teslaās Gigafactory in Shanghai, Bloomberg reported earlier this year.
While India has offered reduced tariffs to manufacturers who produce locally, Tesla has no current plans to build vehicles in the country.
Indiaās Minister of Heavy Industry confirmed earlier this year that the company does not intend to set up local manufacturing.
Electric vehicles accounted for 4.4% of total passenger car sales in June, according to data from the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations of India (FADA), up from 2.5% in the same month last year. Hybrid vehicles represented 8.1% of total sales.
Indiaās Minister of State for Rural Development and Communications, Dr. Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, said on Monday that Starlink, founded by Elon Musk, is expected to provide services in India at a monthly cost of approximately ā¹3,000 ā equivalent to $35.
