It’s a common tradition for CEOs of Chinese automakers to visit competitors’ booths, often introduced by the other company’s CEO. This has been occurring over the years and the Beijing Auto Show was no exception.

On the fair’s opening day, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun visited the Nio booth, where he had the opportunity to examine the 2024 facelift of Nio’s sedan, the Et7.

Two days later, Nio CEO William Li made a return visit to the tech giant Xiaomi, where he was introduced to the first model, Su7, and the entire ecosystem of the brand.

Onvo‘s positioning is clear, it’s aimed at the family market. While Xiaomi’s SU7 is expected to perform well, our Onvo L60 will have better sales,” Nio CEO stated as reported by local media.

According to the chief executive, the first product will be launched in the third quarter with mass deliveries beginning in the last quarter of the year. William Li has previously stated that the model is targeting Tesla Model Y while having a bill of materials (BOM) ten percent lower.

Earlier this week, Xiaomi reported the delivery of 7,058 vehicles in April, its first production month that followed the reveal of the electric model SU7 in late March. The brand has recently reiterated its target of delivering 100,000 units this year.

Xiaomi‘s SU7 made its official debut on March 28, surpassing expectations and prompting extensive queues at retail outlets across China. As of earlier this wee, the company had secured over 80,000 orders for its first model.

Nio unveiled the new facelift of its sedan ET7 during the Beijing Auto Show featuring upgraded seats and two second-row screens. The deliveries of the revamped model started on the last day of April.

Answering to a question on social media platform X, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun said the company is “currently focused on the domestic market” while claiming that “long-term vision” is to have cars on the road worldwide.
