Nio‘s sub-brand Firefly is reportedly preparing a new limited edition of its debut model.
The first units were recently seen being shipped in China, where trim details indicate a new design despite the covered bodies, unlike standard models that remain uncovered.
The information was revealed on a Weibo post by well-known automotive blogger ‘德卤爱开车.’
The user wrote that “the little bug [nickname for Firefly] is getting a new release this month, equipped with the white rims shown in the official specs.”
The white rims first appeared in a vehicle catalog published earlier this year by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, part of the standard approval process preceding a model’s launch.
“There are rumors it might be a special “Black Warrior” edition?,” the user added, saying that the vehicle will likely be unveiled in the upcoming weeks, “around mid-month after the holiday.”
Earlier on Wednesday, Firefly hinted at an upcoming limited edition by sharing a throwback image of its previous edition on Instagram.
The post read: ‘throwback to our last limited edition 🧡 any guesses for what’s coming next? 👀’”
The ‘Nomadic Maillard’ edition, launched in late August and limited to 333 units, sold out in just 30 hours.
The new version was showcased across 48 Nio showrooms in China and deliveries began immediately.
The model featured exclusive wheels, decals, and interior ambient lighting, and could be purchased under Nio’s Battery-as-a-Service rental plan for 93,800 yuan ($13,200) with a monthly battery fee of 399 yuan ($60).
It was priced 14,000 yuan above the entry-level trim of the regular variant.
It is not yet clear what the pricing for the upcoming edition will be.
Last month, the Nio Group reached a new delivery record for the second consecutive month, with over 34,749 vehicles.
Of those, 5,775 were Firefly units, also its highest result since it started deliveries five months ago. The brand also reached its cumulative 20,000th delivered unit last month.
Recently, Firefly brand chief Daniel Ge said the marque is targeting 100,000 cumulative customers by September 2026 — meaning it aims to deliver 80,000 units in the next 12 months.
Recently, a right-hand drive configuration of Firefly’s debut model was spotted at the company’s UK engineering facilities.
The right-hand drive version will be key to Nio‘s entry into markets including Singapore, Hong Kong, Australia, New Zealand, and the UK.
The Nio sub-brand entered Europe in the summer, with deliveries starting on August 14.
To date, 25 Firefly vehicles were registered in Norway and the Netherlands, including test-drive units.
However, September registrations remained low, with only one unit sold in the Netherlands and three in Norway, according to local data.
