Akerho “AK” Oghoghomeh, Lucid‘s former Senior Vice President of Marketing, said that he left the company last month because staying would have meant either moving his family from Los Angeles or commuting to the Bay Area five days a week.
“Neither felt right,” he wrote on LinkedIn on Monday, in his first public comment since Lucid said on July 2, in a statement reported by TechCrunch, that its Senior VPs of Revenue and Marketing and its VP of Program Management “will be leaving Lucid to remain closer to their families and communities.”
“Last month, I left Lucid Motors,” Oghoghomeh wrote, placing his departure in September, two months after the July 2 announcement and after a Lucid spokesperson told MediaPost on July 16 that “Marketing now falls under Billy, and AK will be departing to remain closer to family.”
“As Lucid’s executive leadership team comes together more closely across its headquarters and manufacturing hubs to foster collaboration, accelerate decision-making, and strengthen alignment, AK and the company mutually agreed that this was the right time for a transition,” the spokesperson added.

“For me to continue at Lucid, the choices were becoming pretty clear,” AK wrote. “I could travel back and forth to the Bay Area five days a week, which would mean spending a significant part of my life away from my family, or we could move.”
“I love the work and believe deeply in the company, but I couldn’t justify asking my children to leave the life and community they’ve built in Los Angeles so that I could continue doing a job I loved,” he added.
Lucid’s headquarters are in Newark, California, and its plant is in Casa Grande, Arizona, and Oghoghomeh’s profile lists his Lucid job as remote from the Los Angeles area.
The Restructuring
Oghoghomeh joined Lucid in April 2025 from Beyond Meat, where he had been Chief Marketing Officer since February 2023, after two years as Senior VP of Brand Marketing at Red Bull, according to his profile, and he spent about 17 months at the EV maker.
In that time he signed the actor Timothée Chalamet as Lucid’s first global brand ambassador on July 29, 2025, and built the “Driven” campaign with director James Mangold around the Gravity SUV.
His exit was disclosed on the day Lucid reported a second-quarter delivery miss and named Alexander De Bock as incoming CFO, as Napoli halved the number of executives reporting directly to him and appointed Billy Hayes as Chief Customer Officer.
The marketing job was then refilled a level down, with Angela Zepeda, formerly Global Head of Marketing at X and Chief Marketing Officer of Hyundai Motor America, named Vice President of Global Marketing on August 28, reporting to Hayes.
Two members of the marketing team he assembled had already gone, growth marketing head Bryson Shellito in April and integrated marketing head Bobby Sherlock in May, nine months after Sherlock joined.
The spokesperson told MediaPost in July that Lucid might appoint another Chief Marketing Officer in the future, and the job went to Zepeda at Vice President level.
LinkedIn Activity
Between the July 2 announcement and the October 19 post, the only other item in the posts section of his LinkedIn activity was a repost advertising two openings on the company’s experiential and retail marketing team.
AK owns two Lucid vehicles, he said.
“I’m not exactly making a clean break. There are still two Lucids in my garage,” he wrote, describing himself as “a proud owner, twice over” who believes “Lucid makes the best cars in the world,” and adding that he is “rooting for Lucid,” for former colleagues and “for every owner who has put their faith in the company and its products.”
“But for me and my family, this was the right decision,” he wrote. “At this stage in my children’s lives, I simply wasn’t willing to ask them to give that up.”
