Uber and BYD announced on Wednesday a partnership to introduce 100,000 BYD electric cars to Uber’s ride-hailing platform, starting in Europe and Latin America. The partnership includes special pricing and financing deals for Uber drivers.
The multi-year agreement also entails the development of “autonomous-capable vehicles” specifically for Uber’s platform, the companies revealed in a press release.
This collaboration comes amid heightened tariffs on Chinese-made electric cars, with the European Union following the U.S. in raising import duties earlier this year.
The partnership will expand to include markets across the Middle East, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, according to the official statement.
Chuanfu Wang, Chairman and President of BYD, emphasized that both companies “share a commitment to innovate towards a cleaner, greener world, and I am excited to work together towards that future.”
Earlier this month, The car carrier ship from the auto giant BYD , the “Explorer No.1”, has left the Shenzhen port with 7,000 new energy vehicles (NEVs) on its second journey to Europe.
