While the two lower-priced variants support Navigate on Autopilot (NOA) on highways, the high-end version features NOA in urban areas as well.
The model’s two lower-priced variants are single-motor front-drive with 200 kW of peak power, while the highest-priced variant features an additional rear motor with 150 kW of peak power.
The Sealion models are part of the best-selling Ocean series, which covers a range from compact cars to mid-size sedans and SUVs. Looking ahead, the company plans to unify its naming strategy: all sedans will fall under the “Seal” name, while all SUVs will be branded as “Sealion.”
The Sealion family was unveiled with its Sealion 07 SUV, which was launched in May 2024.
The compact SUV Sealion 05 DM-i was launched last September, with prices starting from 102,800 yuan ($14,200). In March, the brand launched the battery electric (BEV) Sealion 05, priced from 117,800 yuan ($16,300).
During the Shanghai Auto Show last April, BYD unveiled five new models from its Ocean series, which are set to launch globally in the third quarter of this year.
It included the upcoming Sealion 06 SUV, coming later this quarter, which will be available in two versions: a fully electric model (Sealion 06 EV) and a plug-in hybrid variant (Sealion 06 DM-i).
The model was featured on a regulatory filing by China’s MIIT, which showed that the model is 4,810 mm long, 1,920 mm wide, and 1,675 mm high, with a 2,820 mm wheelbase.
2030 Sales Target
Earlier on Thursday, Reuters reported that BYD plans for half of its total sales to come from international markets by the year 2030. The target was outlined to investors, with the company highlighting its expansion in Europe and Latin America.
The company set a global goal of 5.5 million vehicle sales for this year, including 800,000 units overseas. With more than 1 million vehicles sold worldwide in the first four months, 25% of the guidance has been completed.
Year to date, international markets represent 28.5% of BYD‘s sales — which means nearly three out of ten vehicles are sold overseas.
